Hi, 1989 K5 rebuild happening. New front fenders installed. The distance between the tires and fenders are different, cant figure it out, please see pic. Center pins are solid on axle.

Leaf spring bushings or the body’s position on the frame (there’s play for adjustment between the bushings and frame bracket holes) can also affect that.

Thank you, I will check leaf spring bushings, great idea. Is your distance the same on both sides?

@Randybt mine probably isn’t - frame swap, lots of fender trimming, spring hanger changes, etc - it’s probably best that I don’t check. :rotfl:

I’m sure it should really close to being the same but probably really hard to get side to side exactly the same.

I understand. Thank you for your advise. Sounds like you have fun! Thanks again

Try turning the steering wheel all the way left, bring to center and measure both sides. Then repeat after turning to the right.

Good morning Tim, thank you for responding. I don't have it running currently. Ran great when I parked it three years ago so we could rebuild the mess. We have been very careful with everything, measuring checking square etc. through this process.
Thank you for e link to your channel, never seen it before. I have subscribed, you have some very cool square body's! The K5 that's stock even though you have bigger tires can you check the distance on both sides to see it they are the same?
Thank you and I look forward to viewing your videos!

Can you confirm its never been in a wreck? Frame damage could explain difference between sides.
Thanks for responding. No, I cant say its never been in an accident, wish I could. We have measured and checked just about everything, its square and everything lines up, I've got an inch and a quarter difference between rear of front tire and edge of fender. Could be common but I want to eliminate everything I can before accepting. Thanks again.

Aftermarket sheet metal ain't all that great. Your bound to see small differences.
You are correct, I've heard this many times. But, I have an inch and a quarter difference from rear of front tires to edge of fender, its also stock. Just trying to confirm before continuing. Thank you for responding, much appreciated .

Check the height from side to side. A lower side will naturally have less gap and the "length" of a leaf spring changes throughout it's travel. Even if the front springs are brand new, a difference in the back will make the front kind of lopsided and it's also possible to have bushings bound up or a number of other differences.

Thank you for responding. I am dealing with stock so no lift. I am a half in lower on right side, the same side that the picture shows. The reason I'm so concerned there is an inch and a quarter difference from right to left. There is nothing obvious unfortunately. Thanks again.

I'd start measuring from other places to find out which measurement is not the same on both sides.
Is the sheet metal panel the same from door seem to wheel well on both sides?
Is the frame to the corner of the sheet metal panel the same on both sides?
Measure from the rear of the door frame to the back corner of your wheel wells on both sides.
Do you have a similar problem in the back?
Measure the body-to-frame everywhere to see if it's really off-center. Maybe someone did body bushings and put it on very crooked.
Lift the front end up and let it back down quick-ish to see if it settles in a new place or goes right back to the same as it is now.

Eventually you'll find out where the problematic measurements are stemming from. It could be the body is offset. It could be the panels are not identical. It. Frame could be bent.

Being "stock" doesn't mean anything is original. Many things have probably been swapped over the last few decades. Did you verify that the wheels and tires are identical?

Agreed, yes wheels and tires are all the same. Good 15" rally wheels with roller tires but all match.

I measured my M1009 which I know is square alignment wise. 5/8” difference side to side where you measured at in the picture in post 1.

Thank you, I don't believe any of them are exact. I'm still trying to find it. Thanks again.
