Is there such a thing as "cheap" stereo upgrades?

I'd like to get a little more volume out of my setup but I'm not the sort that goes blaring my music around town to piss people off(I just would like to be able to hear my music on the highway with the windows down).

I have stock speakers and a JVC KD-HDR1 receiver.. any suggestions?

I am not a huge stereo fanatic, I just upgraded the speakers to some sony exsplodes, the carry some sound I put in a single 10 inch sony sub and a decent amp. If it gets jacked I am not out much and it suits my needs. Decent upgraded speakers are 39 to 69 bucks, the sub would be around 50-99 for a decent one, box for a single can be around 30.00 for the kit to 100.00..a cheap amp can be had for around 50-100. Figure 10 bucks for a decent fuse and another 30.00 for some decent wire.

The sub I have is nothing aggressive but it really picks up the slack and ands some good lows.Makes my favorite ac dc songs much more enjoyable:D

honestly anything aftermarket is gonna be an upgrade even a walmart setup! its all about how much work you wanna put into it. if its just a decent receiver, and from thier its speaker swaps then go with anything above 50 watts im pretty sure stock gear cant be more then 20 watts if that. so the aftermarket 50w upgrade with the poly cones and what not would be a world of difference.

if you know how too run RCAs which is like a breeze in a k5, then a cheap sub+amp setup is also is a nice suplement. i have hooked up everything in my rig from ebay! just keep an eye on brand you might know and trust. i personally use all audiobahn cause its cheap and competitive as far as performance.

There is always tons of stuff on craigslist in your particular city.

The only thing I really don't want to do is pull the dash pad, but if I have too.. the one I've got now is PRISTINE.

What size speakers go in the rear behind the 2nd row?

Well , first upgrade the stock speakers , Memphis and Soundstream both make the stock size ( 3.5 and 4x10 ) , and they sound really good if you keep the low bass out of em .

Then go into radio and turn the subwoofer crossover on so no lows go to the main speakers ran off the deck http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/91/LVT1470-001A.pdf

Then add a simple amp and a sub ( or two ) for the lows .

The amp and sub(s) can be had cheap used on message boards and ebay , or even a decent entry level amp from a heavy hitter ( I have the RF 2002 bridged to two used RF subs ) . The speakers for the stock locations can be found on ebay all day long cheaply .

Should be more than enough for you :thumb:
