I found a local guy who has a set of axles for sale. 14-bolt ff, open carrier with 4.10 gears, front Dana 44, open with 4.10s.

$400

My rear axle is about toast. My buddy was going to give me a 14bsf, but I'd have to regear my front to match or regear both depensing on the ratio it has, plus swap out my outers for 8-lug.

With this one I can sell my front axle and maybe part out my rear axle and recoup some money, and already be geared 4.10. I just don't know about the open diffy though. Of course, it won't see anything more than the beach for the the forseeable future, but I still like to know I have that extra grip if need be.

Should I jump on it or pass? The axles are complete with stock leafs and all.

Its not a bad deal. 14 bolt is always on CL for $100.00. So $300.00 for a dana 44. Maybe you could talk him down a bit, But me personaly, I dont think its a bad deal.

id check and see if its a flat top 44.
which owuld allow you to get set up with crossover much easier.

if so, its def not a bad deal. not stupendous, but def not bad

How can I tell if they are flat top knuckles? I realyl don't knwo what I'm looking for there.

On the plus side the open diff in the rear axle means you can put a Detroit straight into it and not have to get an open carrier for it.

If they are in good shape and don't need any refurbishment than that's a decent deal.

4.10's won't be great for anything bigger than 33's.

lol. i've got 4.10s that i'm anxious to run with 38s. lol

but they were 3.73s when i got the blazer so i'm sure itll be better.

I know the 4.56s would be better with the taller tires. I'm wondering if I shouldn't just regear the 14bsf my friend is giving me to 4.56 and then swap my 10-bolt outers.

I emailed the guy to see how firm he was on the price. I might just pass.

I don't know if he did this but it looks like he either spray painted them or he actually did go thru them and clean them up and probably fixed anything wrong, if that is the case, I say not a bad deal.
And yes this is not a flat top knuckle.

They are spray painted, he said he didn't go through them, just pulled them out of a junk truck.

I think I am going to pass. I already have the gears for the front, and I can use the 14bsf that my buddy gave me and regear that.

I imagine regearing the 14bsf that was free and the cost of the new outers on my 10-bolt to convert it to 6-lug I would end up spending less money and have the gearset I want.

What gears on the front? 4.10 or 4.56?
I have some rear 14bsf 4.10 if that is the ratio you need.

Well, maybe a change here. I told the guy I was going to pass and he sent me a very low dollar amount to buy them. I'm not sure if he meant for both or what. Update shortly.

OK, might have found a better deal. Front D44 with a Spartan locker, MM hubs, thick diff cover. Ring gear has some chipped teeth due to the pinion nut backing out and the u-joints need replacing.

I figure I'll need to redo the gears anyway, and the u-joints I'd probably do before swapping anyway.

Guy wants $200.

the first deal was pretty good.the axles looked pretty good, even if they are junkyard pull.14ff wouldve been stronger but the 14 sf will last if you are going to stay under 35-36 inch tire.above that you are gonna start havin problems if you do any heavy wheeling.the locker on that front axle is worth the 200 if it is ok after the r&p problems.you can get replacement gears for anether hundred if the gears on there now are toast.hopfully it didnt damage the carrier or thatll be more cash.look it over real well.pull the cover and look inside and check the axle shafts.if the ring gear let go,you never know what else went on the inside.

what size tire are you running?
im running 4:56's with essentially 38's and i dont mind it... the 4.56's were stock.. so when i had 33's it had tons of grunt... if i ever go nv4500.. ill change my gears

Right now I'm running 35s. I'm debating running some 37s, but that's just because I am going to run H1 beadlocks and I can get military 37s cheap around here. Plus the only real hard wheeling I am going to be doing any time soon is the beach with my family.
