Found a DRW 14 bolt in the junkyard today.

Has 4.10 gears (10 41 stamp on the ring gear).

I'm curious as to what kind of carrier that is, is it worth pulling and using?

Also, the axle is under a 2WD '88-'98 3500 if that helps any.

Can I throw my SRW hubs and DIY4X disc brake brackets on this DRW axle and run it?

count the cross pin holes, if it has three it's a G80. More than likely that's what you're looking at.

Ok, so stay away from it then lol. I've heard bad thing about G80's.

Couldn't sping the ring gear around, forklift mangled the driveshaft up and I didn't feel like unhooking it while I was there.

14B 10.5" G80's aren't that bad, not nearly as fragile as the 10 bolt version. However you'll need a new carrier if you want upgrade to a Detroit later.

gov-loc in 14ff are the strongest . I have been running them for years and love them .

yes you can do srw hubs and disk brakes . ether diy4x or ruff stuff and maybe others . I know ruff stuff has specific brakets just for that swap and no mods needed.

perches and shocks need moved from the 88-98 spec to what you put it in .

I'm thinking about going back tomorrow and pulling all the guts out of the axle.

Will this thing fly apart when I remove it?

Im not even sure mine was blown, I did see some wear on it and was a suspect to the weird issue I had.

I have heard they hold up good and I like them on the street.

I was gonna pull all of the guts, like everything. I've decided to keep my welded up spider gears for now vs. putting a G80 in there though so I haven't been back to the yard.

I was gonna keep those 4.10 gears and hold onto them until I figure out how to and had have the proper tools to re-gear my axles on my own but I have 3.73's right now and figure if I re-gear it would be more in th 4.88 or 5.13 range with some thick cut gears.

Did you need something from that axle?

I am trying to track down a cheap 10.5" G80 carrier, but shipping probably wouldn't be fun.

Didn't you just buy new spider gears for your existing axle? :dunno:

I could probably grab it next time I'm there, doesn't seem like it would be too time consuming.

And yea, I've still got those spider gears. I looked those welded spiders over in my axle and whoever welded them did a pretty good job. Gonna chirp those tires for awhile before I switch over to something else.

At this point it's not worth much to me, so I wouldn't put time into it unless it was cheap. I'm not tearing my axle apart again until after the spring thaw (May at the very earliest?). :dunno:
