The only thing I think would be an issue is I don't know if I'd be able to seperat the ring gear from the G80 in the junkyard and I don't want them to charge me for that.

Removing the ring gear should be easy enough, just bring the right socket and a way to gently constrain the housing while you're removing the bolts.

I don't remember what I used when I removed my ring gear, but I don't recall any problems.

probably easier to wedge something in the gears while the carrier is in the axle to break those ring gear bolts loose.

g80 has screws to hold the halfs together unlike open carrier .
