wow, that shure was a mess for a simple question.

is what im understanding from gambit is the old style willy's type axle? didnt they use a scew type solid axle? heard they were bullet proof but u couldnt do over 30mph with the thing so they got rid of it? i have thought of it also if so but was told not even close enough to being strong stock. but if it were made from a toy to a useable size..... :thinking:
 
There was a "Spiral Bevel" rear axle that I know of, but it isn't anything like the idea gambit420 floated. It had curved teeth (instead of straight teeeth ala a "crown gear"), but it was not hypoid.
 
A lot of trucks from the olden days had worm gear rear ends. Some are still around today. Often, they would seize up because they'd get hot when run at high speeds (30mph). My neighbor has one at his Dad's farm. They used it to haul hay. It has solid rubber tires. Probably 65-70 years old.
