Pretty much decided I want to do a magnum box or something of the sort so I’ve been looking for a 205. I know very little about the 205s so I just want y’alls expert advice before I spent any money.

Found this one a couple hours away. Seller says it was behind a TH400 so that should mean it’s 32 spline, correct? It also has a PTO attachment, which I’m sure someone on here might want. And lastly, did 205s ever come with a slip yoke?

Again, I don’t know much about these things, is there one in particular to look for for adding an underdrive to it?

Looks like a '80 version. They did make slip yoke 205, thought it was reg cab versions. But its the early version with the 8 track adaptor, 77-84 I think...

That's a good one right there. Hard to tell but it may be a synchro case. Not a deal breaker or anything.
In that condition to me it's worth 3-400 bucks. Just that chrome shifter is pretty valuable nowadays.

yep th400 version .

easy to make fixed yoke rear when you have it apart .

flat flange front = 30 spline front output shaft .

let me know on the pto unit .

also the adaptor i can use for one i have .

Sure thing! He’s gonna get me some pics of the front cover to see if it’s synchro or not. If not I’ll go pick it up!

What kind of vehicle would that PTO equipped 205 transfer case come out of? Dump truck or something?

Dump truck, role back, plow truck, Anything that needed a PTO. I wanted one for an old Koenig PTO winch that I had.

You need a pic of the front output from the backside of the case. Pto doesn't care if it's synchro or not.

This is what you're looking for -

With oiling vein = syncro version

That 205 is out of a M1031. It has a long 32 spline input like the 1985.5 and up round pattern 205, but has the figure 8 pattern like the early 85 and down.

The rear slip yoke came on about every GM 205 with a 131.5 or less wheel base from 1980 and up.

Military CUCV's did not use the syncro case.

The PTO goes to the generator.

@rksjd8420 good eye for the win .

i now see the long input gear on that adaptor .

to @chris85 its no big deal on the input gear if going magnum unit since its not used .

at that price point with all the basic info and parts on it 200 is a go buy it now price .

Rookie question but when differentiating between a round pattern and figure 8 pattern, it referring to the input shaft adapter? So this is actually a figure 8?
