My passenger window is electric and lately it will only go down 1/2 way and then just stop. sometimes itll go all the way down but the last 1/2 is slower , even coming up its slower thru the first half.

What can I do to fix or help this? What do you think the problem is? motor going bad? stuff inside just needs lubed?

Thanks

Bout the only thing to do is pull the panel and look. Could be trash in the mech. Does it seem to go down straight as far as it does?
A little cleaning and some grease just might fix it right up.

Yea it goes down perfectly straight. I do have TINT on my windows and I know you have the rubber it has to slide down, so I know there is some friction with that. But it is only going down 1/2 sometimes and wont budget.

I was planning on pulling the panel and taking a peek, hard to see much in there from what I remember last time I removed it.

Also I never was able to remove the panel, it was always attached at the very top some how, like where the rubber pieces are. ANy tricks to removing the panel completely???

Yep, I know exactly how to pull that panel......No, wait, that's a Ford, sorry. :doah:

I have pulled them before, but its been so long since I pulled one of that brand, I would hate to tell you wrong.

I seem to remember getting all the clips pulled loose, and then the whole panel taps up to release it from the bottom of the window frame, but wait until someone who has done one recently chimes it.

kennyw rewired his windows so the motors were on the dash and everything was powered more directly with better quality electronics. Sorta like the headlight relay setup a lot of us are running now.

Not a lot of juice to begin with, poorly setup, and weak components. Add a better supply of power and viola, works better.

Sooo, he added long teleflex cables? Lots of gears? Seems counterproductive to take the motors out of the doors and mount them on the dash....:haha:

Remove the screws at the bottom, the armrest, and remove the door lock knob, then lift the panel straight up over the door lock shaft.

Why does everyone always blame the motors first? When I had rehabed mine the main culprit was the old original grease that GM used that the rollers ride on. It basically turned to glue. If I were you, before you spend $$ that you don't need to I'd take the window regulator out, clean it and lube everything with marine grade bearing grease. Clean all the dirt out of the window felt and see how easily the window slides when you manually push it up. You might need new window felts. While you have the window regulator out you can hook up 12V to it and see how the motor runs (polarity doesn't matter - it just changes the direction the motor turns). If the motor seems to struggle you can take it apart and regrease that too (again the grease inside gets hard). Just drill out the rivets (I think there are 12) and reassemble with some nuts/bolts/lock washers for easy service next time.

I took panel off and greased/lube up everything I could in place. Until the motor goes im not tearing all that out. It doesnt look like much fun.

Its a lil bit better. I could see the rollers get bound up somewhat on the second half of it going down. I sprayed some good dry lube on there and put as much grease on the tracks as possible. I pulled the electric connections and they were nice and shiny, but I still sprayed them with some protectant and while in there, sprayed all the lock and handle stuff.

Relays.

Had a beer last night and haven't in a while and wow, some of my posts last night...:doah:

Don't be intimidated, it's not that bad. Go buy a six pack and become one with it for an afternoon.

And when your motor goes out can you send it my way :deal:
