Ok, here's the issue. Yesterday I filled up my gas. I have an 80 Scottsdale, with dual fuel tanks. When the right tank was empty I switched over to the left tank and had no fuel to the engine so I was left stranded. The fuel gauge showed the tank was full but no fuel was getting to the engine. Any ideas?

Check the switchover solenoid underneath?

I haven't worked on an older GM 2 tank system, but from what I recall on others I've worked on, the dash switch "activates" the solenoid, and sends the fuel gauge the correct sender output.

I've heard of the solenoids going bad, and replaced them in the past.

Good luck!

sounds stupid, but make sure the switch didn't stick "in between".

ask me how I know......:doah::doah::doah:

Test the solenoid on the valve with the key on, engine off
(its out of gas I know) then operate the switch back and forth. You should hear a click or at least hear something coming from the framerail just inside of the passenger side fuel tank.

If no sound then the valve may have failed or the wiring may need attention. Auto parts stores keep the valve in stock.

Ok, so something killed my battery. Bought new battery cuz the other was old anyway. Then new battery got drained low enough so truck wouldn't start. Jumped truck, let it run for about an hour. Went out next morning and truck was dead. Heard a buzzing noise when I finally got a charge. Buzzing noise was the freakin relay. The fuel switch relay drained the battery! Guess what? Can't find a relay, anyone know where I can get one or bypass?

Do not BYPASS the relay. It is to keep voltage spikes down and keep from causing more issues and/or burning your truck down if things go really south in your electrical. Should be able to pick up at any auto store.

Autozone had it in stock in a little town in New Mexico when I needed one so I am guessing that whoever you talked to at those places couldn't figure out what you needed based on your description.

What exactly were you asking for?

That's possible, I asked for a fuel switch relay. I also gave him the part # and he said there was no cross reference for it either.

Are you sure that's what the relay is for? My '79 does not have a fuel switch relay in the system, nor did it ever.

The part number is for what part? I called it a fuel tank switch valve when I bought mine. Not sure if it has a relay or not but that is how I got my part.

I looked up the part number on line. Do you have dual fuel tanks? I do

Yeah, dual tanks. There's no relay on mine. When I got the truck the tank valve did not operate so I researched the whole system. If I remember things right, even the newer system with the different dash switch does not have a relay.

I just had a blown fuse, BTW.

When I looked up the part number it said fuel switch relay IIRC. PN 14014527 if any one else finds something different please let me know

Man, we are trying to help here. Where did you get that part number?
I tried it in Autozone's and O Reilies web search and no results. I am sure that is why they said they could not cross it over.

Give me a minute and I will get you a part number. Took me like two minutes. Part number FSV1 Autozone $50.00 or so.

Don't get me wrong, I know y'all are trying to help. I was saying if anyone else knew of where to look, to let me know. I checked both of those on line sites as well with no luck. FSV1? what's that mean? The part number I got is stamped right on front of the relay. When I googles the number the fuel relay came up.

I just looked up the FSV1, that's not the part. It's a relay that I pulled out if the fuse block. Sorry if I didn't say that before. I originally thought it was the door buzzer from the noise it was making but when I googled the number it said fuel relay.

Pictures go a long way in trying to help someone. A description including size, shape, color, location will help if pics aren't available.

Fuel tank selector meter???? Never heard of it. Doesn't mean that it's not what you need but describe it to us exactly please.
