It’s a Jeep thing.....dang

Yeah, that’s on the list to get done. I have to do gears and diffs first though. 3.07’s and open diffs on 33’s is just bad. Fifth gear is useless. I think that I can pull an axle shaft from a 96 and xj and throw that in there with a seal. Then just block off the cad hole.

I always liked the Michael Jackson pick-up. :waytogo:

We had an 89 XJ with the Renix 4.0. That rig single handedly turned my wife off the Jeep brand forever. Electrical clusterfock, mostly engine/running related. Probably a lot to do with that anti-corrosion stuff, but it would randomly die, and not re-start, or it'd fire up and have an idle speed of 2700 rpm. The quick fix for either problem was pop the hood and give all 6 injectors a twist/wiggle, and it was good again for an unknown period of time.

After I replaced the switch, I still didn’t have a light or 4wd. I checked at the switch and there was no vacuum. Now I get to chase hoses on that stupid ass cad vacuum system.

I got lucky and found it pretty quickly. It was a broken hose at the frame manifold. Someone had zip tied the hose bundle to the upper link.

I drilled the broken hose out and stuck it back in the manifold

And mounted it back up

This one did the high idle thing also. The throttle body was gummed up bad. I also had to take the iac out and clean it cause it would also stick.

I don’t have a lot of photos just yet. The guys I went with do, so I’ll get them from them.
It was snowing like crazy at the top.

I learned that I need to gear the pig REALLY bad.

I need to put lockers in REALLY bad.

And most of all.. I need to disconnect the sway bar.

Overall I’m really happy with it though. I’ve got a ways to go though.

Side note : the big horn basin does NOT have wheeling like this. Water barred fire roads in shell just are not the same.

what gears and lockers are you looking at? I think all Comanches got the Dana 44 rear with the 30 up front.

Mine has a 30 hp up front and a 35 in the rear. It has 3.07’s in it now. So with the five speed and 33’s I’m looking at 4.56-4.88’s. That should put it around 15-1600 at 65.

I’m probably just going to with a lunch box for now. The thing is, is that 35 in the rear. I’m not real sure about it. 44’s for a mj are kind of hard to find, plus the have c clips. I find them in xj’s all the time. I’d like to stay sua though cause I really like the height it’s at now. Soa puts it up around six inches.

I guess the thing most guys do is put an exploder 8.8 back there and re-weld the perches. I’ll probably pick one of these up and just gear the 35 until it blows up lol.

What did you run in your xj?

I've had a few XJs. They are a blast and can fit on any atv trails. My favorite was my '01 4 door. 3" lift I think with cut out flares no sway bars and 32s. That thing would go anywhere. These trucks were always weird to me with the unibody stuff. Still fun I bet.

Little Red had a HP30 with an 8.8 in the rear. the guy I got it from in 2003 went to Oklahoma City and bought a new in the crate 8.8 off a dealer that had a stack of them. he geared it at 4.56 and welded it. later I added a lunch box locker to the front.

Blackie is running an XJ Dana 44 in the rear with a Wagoneer 44 in the front. I have the Wagoneer 44 rear for it; debating on whether to put that in it and save the XJ 44 for another project. it has a spool in the rear and lunch box locker in front geared at 4.46

and for inspiration; this is a buddy of mine that lives in Indiana now

I’m probably gong to go with the 8.8, unless you want to sell those waggy axles lol.

That mj is sexy as ****.
