Well last night I got the old CUCV to fire up, new glow plugs, new fuel shutoff solenoid, new fuel filter, and 5 gallons of diesel. She lives again, YAY. But now 2 injectors are leaking so I gotta get em rebuilt.

well the injectors arent leaking where I thought they were it was just loose fuel lines. Got one snugged up and it aint leaking. The other is tight, but it is still dripping at the threads. What gives?

Anyway, I threw on the waterpump belt, fired it up, and let it run for about 30 mins, she runs good, though there is a noise that Im not sure about, underneath the truck. A quick glance shows the flexplate wiggling a little everytime it goes around, so Im thinkin maybe its cracked and makin the noise. Ya cant hear the noise from in front of the truck.

It also appears that it can leak through the middle of the top of that fitting, around where the fuel line goes in. *sigh*

That most likely is a cracked or lose flexplate, tend to it quickly before it damages things.

As for the leaking line, take it off and see if there is any dirt on the sealing surface or a scar.
If not and it still leaks let me know which one it is and i can send you one to fix it for cheap.

There are little sealing washers on the fuel line, yours might be buggered up or have a bit of dirt on it as already suggested. Congrats on getting it running!!! ;)

Well after screwing with that dang line for half the day it magically quit leaking, so who knows. Is the flexplate a common failure with the 6.2s?

Common enough going by what I read here on CK5. Common enough on the gas engine trucks...

The diesel has very aggressive igniton event pulses. When each cylinder fires you get a momentary velocity spike. i does take it's toll...mostly on balancers and flexplates. That's also why the diesel TC is bolted up with 6 bolts instead of three.

Definitely worth checking IMO.

I fixed a diesel truck last year with the 6 bolt TC and the guy came to me with banging noise, there was one bolt left out of the six.

Well took it around the block on its maiden voyage today. Sweet jesus is it slow. I mean, seriously, slower than snot. Its got craploads of torque, punch it off the line itll chirp the tires, but after......25ft......yes feet, not mph....it just slowly accelerates.

Anyway, I think the tap is the flexplate tappin on the starter, got under there it seems to be comin from that area and it seems like the flexplate is awful close to the nosecone on the starter. So Ill have to check that out.

The dang fuel line started leaking again, and it seems to have a slight miss, probably b/c of the leaking injector. Just as I was coming back to turn into the yard, it started cutting out, figured out it was about out of gas lol, and it musta been sucking half air half fuel, put 5 gallons in and runs like a top again.

Compared to a 496 I'm sure it is slow. My '83 scoots pretty good though, it doesn't fall on it's face within 25 feet and I don't recall ever flooring it.

Haha, well I was expecting something like my old 350, but yeh, its definately sluggish. Of course, I dont know what shape the tranny is in so that could definately be a problem. Now the thing is....Im already thinking about a 465 swap on it, cause the tranny/tcase adapter is cracked on the 400/208, and with parasitic loss from the 400...eh....damn I wish I would hit the lottery lol.

Do it, and you'll never look back. My K5 had the 465/205 behind a 6.2...with 4.56's and 39.5's and it was quite snappy. I never ran the 350 with the 39.5's so I don't have a direct comparison...but the 350 with the same gears and 36's wasn't much faster. The 350 just had more top end (duh...)

The 465 get's more power to the ground. Let's face it, a 6.2 doesn't have a lot to spare, so the less that gets wasted running through a slushbox the better. The 6.2 actually seems to do better than a sbc with the wide ratio trans. It's better able to cope with the occasional lugging.
