It marks its territory....on demand!

You say that like its a bad thing..........

Man you have almost 1500 posts, so I know you have been here before.

Grown men and women spending thousands and thousands of dollars on obsolete vehicles to make them capable of climbing over rocks or other places they were never meant to be able to go.

And for no other reason than to say they did it. They do not need to go there for any practical purpose. No one is in danger, there is no money waiting for them, sometimes there is no one around to see them do it.

Childish? Kinda the whole idea. Grownups do things to make money or advance themselves in some way.
Children do things because its fun.

Please God, I don't care how old I get. Just don't let me grow up....

I'll try to take the high road here.

Squirting water into someone's car or on a person walking down the street is just buill****. What happens when you do it to an off duty cop and he hauls your ass off to jail? Are you going to come here to complain about LEO that harassed you?

It's like the kids that going around shooting paint balls at people, they are kids. If that is the childish behavior you wish to display then so be it.

Not being a jackass to people has nothing to do with growing up or old. It's call not being a jackass. Being young at heart doesn't have anything to do with child like behavior.

And my post count doesn't mean jack. I've been a member of this board since Jan 2004. That's about 4 1/2 years longer then you which doesn't mean jack either. It's my behavior and treatment of other people that means jack.

Let me get some things straight here, I have absolutely no intentions to start a flame war; one because it is what you would call "immature" and two; I shall quote a phrase from Murphy's law, "never argue with fools, people might not know the difference" not to be calling you a fool but lets not make ourselves appear to be foolish. The reason I find this entertaining is because it's not something you see everyday, I usually squirt people I know, and I don't parade around town squirting everybody everyday. Since I have the luxury of living in a small town, I know about 70% of the local PD and a few of them are close friends, making me able to distinguish who is off duty and who isn't. Also from what I can tell, paint balls, and a little bit of soapy water are two very different things, traveling at extremely different velocities.

Bottom line is that it's a gag, it makes people laugh, and it doesn't hurt to have a little bit of fun now and then ;)

id say squirtying people with your winshield sprayers is about along the lines of having a hand busser or a pen that shocks you when you click it. its fun for awhile and doesnt hurt anybody, its not messing anything up or causing any problem its just fun

well, it'll be an airpan assembly on top of the tbi powercharger

under the air filter.. similar in function to a Moroso airpan like this,

but it'll be made from the composite fiberglass I've used thruout my build on the console, dash, etc... and obviously it'll be a fair amount larger than the Moroso unit so it matches up to the under side of the cowl hump... I'll be running a 6" x 14" air filter in it... also the sidewalls will be mostly fiberglass, with a much smaller foam gasket....

then I will also be running a functional flapper in the cowl hood itself.... I have about 1/2 of the parts needed for that sitting in my attic from my Chevelle days...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6Plv8-zTxI&feature=search

then under the back edge of the cowl I'll have my fuel pressure, trans pressure and vac gauges...

Interesting:thinking:, I thought the flapper was located at the back of the hood under the cowl hump, in the vid it has the flap on the top of the hump and an open element style intake with a lid on it that sat into the hood; possibly restricting airflow, also the flapper appeared to be directly hooked up to the throttle with no delay...wouldn't it be hooked up to a vacuum line to the intake, so at certain high RPMs the flap will open by a spring since the engine isnt creating as strong of a vacuum? Also wouldnt you have the cowl hood work in conjunction with a standard cold air intake? It looks like a real neat and clean looking system...but I cant really see the aerodynamics working properly:dunno:

Not trying to beat you down with the subject, I just want to hear your thinking :ears:

My point exactly :waytogo: I just didn't want this topic to cause a big stink over something silly as this....

that is the factory cowl induction setup, flapper on top... had one on my 70 SS..... and it is a vac operated system... it is pulled close at idle vac and spring opened when you lose vac... that is why the flapper is open when the car is turned off... a factory system is a little fancier than I'm gonna run as it has an inner door too operated by a gas pedal electric switch... I'm just gonna run the flapper...

the purpose of the cowl hood is obviously to take advantage of the high pressure spot at the base of the windshield, the flapper adds to that by opening another avenue for the air.. so it is effectively a cold air intake, just takes it from another source other than the grill....

the air cleaner sits forward of where the flapper is, and obviously the back opening are, so an air cleaner lid is no restriction... the air is hitting the backside of the filter...

cowl induction isn't a be all end all, but a well designed system can be effective... a proper airpan and sealing are essential.... tho a grill intake can be effective, cowl induction is just plain trick... throw the flapper in and it's badarse...

another side benefit to building the system I'm doing is it should help tremendously with water crossings as opposed to a grill mount.... unless it's coming over the hood, but I'm guessing I'd be up ****'s creek at that point anway... pun intended.... :haha:

and lastly, one main reason I'm doing it is, I've never in all my years seen a GM truck with a functional flapper.. tons of cowl hoods, but no flapper... think it'd be pretty trick and original... if i didn't have 1/2 the parts already I probably wouldn't be doing it...... last time i priced em, a full flapper setup was pretty expensive...

on a sidenote...... I'll actually be buying the hood soon, as I'm putting the clip back together these days.... wont do the airpan or flapper for a bit, but i'll have the hood at least....

Factory you say? hmmm I gotta look at some more pictures of the flapper/intake mechanism. Wouldn't you need another source for the air intake along with the cowl hood? The 68-69 Camaros had the flapper inside the cowl itself utilizing that low pressure in front of the base of the windshield and also a cold air intake in the front feeding into the base of the seal just below the hood, when looking into the intake with the hood up you see a seal around an element and the center of the element it's open allowing you to see the butterfly valves in the carburetor or intake. With only a sealed cowl and a flapper all I see is a crazy looking "choke" for the engine...have you ever heard of chevy's "astro Air"? same concept except without the cowl.

btw if water is coming over your hood that would be called boating :D

in highschool when i would sit in the truck at lunch kids would walk by and get sprayed all the time lol pissed off a lot of people.

i can never get the pass side hose to stay connected. works one day then pops off, put back on and may last a week a month or hell just 2 hours.

right, a factory chevelle has a standard intake off the filter base..... i wont be utilizing that because my cowl hood will be open at the back, no door... effectively my intake will be sealed off from the engine compartment, unlike a factory setup...

here's a factory chevelle setup....

There's a guy up here with a Toyota truggy that has a cut down tail gate... The tail gate doesn't work, but he left the handle and when anyone pulls it a windshield squirter shoots you right in the crotch...:haha:

He even put a sticker on it that says pull me...:D

I've watched people pull and pull on that thing until it looks like they pissed themselves...

This is by far the funniest use for a wiper bottle pump that i have ever heard of... its so good that it might get coppied.:haha:

We Have an Old R800 Mack tractor at my dads and we rigged up a washer pump outlet to come right out between his Hind legs spraying forward, its awesome lol

always seems your the one to make a comment DR..... unlike many who come on here, or people everyone knows, I finish my projects.... it'll be 3 yrs off the road come x-mas.... after DDing it for about 4....

I'd venture to guess that I've put more labor in my truck in that 3 yrs than ANYONE in this forum has... easily....

I'd say for the amount of custom work I have done, 3 yrs is a pretty reasonable build... heck, it'd take alot of guys 10 yrs to do what I've done...

Ohhh I see, so technically what your plans for your intake is a cold air intake that utilizes the cowl and low pressure at the base of the windshield, and the element is sealed away from the hot engine compartment and it's without the complex flapper mechanism.

Quite honestly I think a functional full fledged cowl induction system on these trucks are pointless, but at least it wont just be for decoration, and it is a far better intake than the factory cold air setup running from the grill :D

correct..... the surface flapper wont do much at all, other than look cool... and that'll be the last part of the project, the airpan will be much more of a priority...
