So one of my customers has a 95 s10 blazer out back of his shop..

4.3, auto 4x4 4 door...
starts and idles, but wont accelerate, just bogs and dies... i can fix it, they cant...

IF.. and i say IF... i can get them to sell it to me cheap enough, i think i might like to make it one ton with a 465/205 behind the 4.3 and then i'll rebuild my 350 to swap in later with some form of injection... but the thought of a fuel injected 190hp/210ft lbs v6 4 door with a/c sounds kinda hot...

so..what do you guys think?? doable? or am i the only one who thinks that the 465 shifter will be somewhere near the back side of the radio??

if anyone has done it or knows about it... HELP!!!! please?? am i sick, or is it a sickness??:D

Which type of FI is it......TBI or Vortec?

if its the CPI (you can tell by the large aluminum intake that looks a little like TPI) I place my bet on the fuel injector its self, they are not to cheap but if you can get the truck for cheap its pretty easy to fix to have your self a good DD or injected projevt truck

I had a '94 or '96 (can't remember which) and it was a 4.3 Vortec but in a Bravada. It ran like crap at the end til I traded for a 72" Toro Groundsmaster golf course mower.

Turns out theres a "spider" thing-a-ma-jig inside the big plenum housing and one of the lines/hoses was cracked and old. Simply replaced the spider for a new one and it ran fine again.

My '95 fullsize has a 4.3

It says "Vortec" on the valve cover, although it's a TBI engine. It was a 4.3 thing.

.

all 4.3s are Vortec. although what we commonly refer to as a Vortec 4.3, is actually just a CPI 4.3.

itsa vortec, if they cant fix it, and i can convince them its not too major, they want 500 bucks... if its something a little more major he wont want as much... so how much does one of the spider cages go for? nevermind i see they're about 400 bucks... not too bad, but i know where i can pick up a 4.3/4l60e/complete harness for 600 bucks that runs great (worn timingchains) with 195k on it, but would give me a good block and heads to rebuild and make some power with...

I say go for it, would definitely conquer some trails with the one tons and good suspension setup. The a/c and big v6 is just icing on the cake, they can make really good power and are great on gas also.

not all 4.3L v6s are vortec. i think 1992 was the first year vortec heads were offered on the s10 and in afaik, 1994 was the first year they were available (with 2-injector tbi) on fullsize trucks. in my experience, there is little difference in actual performance between the 94-95 vortecs and the 96+ vortecs. the power curve is slightly different, but driveablility and peak output haven't really changed much. the difference between the vortec and pre-vortec is significantly greater. a fullsize 92 tbi non-vortec (like my friend had) was putting out only 160-165hp, and under 230 torque. in 94, the fullsize vortec had 200hp and 260tq, and has stayed right around there to this day. for some stupid reason, my mom's 2000 blazer and my friend's 2001 s10 pickup only have 190hp and 180hp, respectively. torque is 240 and 230, i think. seems dumb to detune the engine just because it's in a smaller vehicle. guess they didn't want to alienate full-size owners. half-tons still have 200hp (195, this year, according to chevy's website) and 260tq.

but, after all my rambling, i'm not slamming the non-vortecs. like the vortecs, they are solid, reliable engines with broad, flat torque curves. you just won't need z-rated tires with a non-vortec :wink1:. the vortecs aren't exactly race motors, but i regularly top out the speedo with mine. that's 90mph+, and i've been pulled over for 112mph. that's a 94 vortec v6 pulling a 4500lb c1500 xcab. good engines.

actually, wikipedia is mistaken, but i think that this GM ad for the 1985 model year should clear things up nicely.

Hey Beater - could you make that picture a little bigger? I'm having a hard time seeing it from the other room :D

damn, i forgot i started a threadwar on vortecs... lol anyways... so does it sound feasable? has anyone done it? the 465 will bolt up but where would that put the shifter? if i can buy it cheap enough, ill buy it anyways and then go from there...
