iwaxmyjimmy's build thread 5/28/22 update

Sorry to hear about your dad's health.

But nice to see some good upgrades coming!

Thanks, he got in a pretty bad wreck and has some trouble getting around now. If only I can get him to stop annoying the hell out of me then we will be all good lol. Plan is to atleast drove it around the parking lot this month if going through the throttle body will fix my fuel delivery issue. It'll start using ether but I don't think it's fueling because it won't stay running. Just have to change out a joint on the drive shaft and it should propel itself. Litereally the only two things keeping it from running and driving. Hopefully will go through the throttle body this weekend or next week. Should be able to swap out the u-joint too.

Took a wire wheel to the tubes and pumpkin, still need to pull the knuckles off and clean them up good and paint them

How it sits now, driver side rocker is on its way out, roof has some surface rust, the floor in the back is the same as when I cut out the rust the rhino lined it.
image.jpeg Wfo crossover, was gonna do high steer but I'm worried about clearances with how little lift I plan on running
image.jpeg Where I had to put a new fuel pump in, but I've got the replacement panels for the back already, cost me $50 for both brand new.

Well got everything for cross over, scored some scratched Yukon hardcore hubs for $200 shipped, started cleaning up the 60, closing on my house at the end of June. Went ahead and put it on some 17s so I don't have to grind the front calipers on the 60. Had a little trouble getting the lower kingpin cap off, but I just ordered my king pin rebuild kits. Did get it back up running and driving put a drive shaft in it and drove it around the parking lot. It's been 10 years since I did that so I was happier than a pig in shit.

After I close on the house I'll do the 52/56 spring swaps, swap in the 60, do the crossover steering get me a front driveshaft and then get the tires. Still haven't decided on tires but 42-44s are what's gonna go on it. Just want to drive it around town then I'll put 35 spline chromos, lockers, and the roller cam swap. Then later on I'll do the doubler, flat belly, and the cage.

When building my jeep I decided that stages but keeping it driveable is key to enjoying it, not long extended periods of it being tore down. You lose interest when you do that.

Rebuild kits got here, I've got the lower kind pins heavily coated with some PB blaster. Hoping I can knock them lose tomorrow and clean up my inner Cs and knuckles. Can replace the upper Kingpins yet bc I haven't moved into my house and set up my welder yet. But I atleast wanna get everything cleaned up and painted and loosely assembled so it goes together smoothly. Did cut off the factory steering stabilizer mount and put a light coat of paint on it. Need to order shafts, locker and diff cover and the 60 will be complete.

image.jpeg Finally got the damn knuckle off, ended up hammering 3 chisels inbetween the lower king pin and the knuckle.

Used a wire wheel on my grinder, a wire brush, and some brake cleaner to get pretty much all the rust and dirt off to prep the inner c and everything else.image.jpeg
Painted everything but still need to clean up the stock shafts because I'll end up rocking those till I get a locker and chromos for the front. Didn't do the passenger side yet because I'll need to turn the axle around to get the shaft out.

Got the passenger side cleaned up and painted, diff cover on for the time being. Still need to buy some 35 spline chromoly shafts, 3/8 ORD tie rod, and a locker. I've already have some Yukon hardcore hubs. Need to get some new inner axle seals, actually install the kingpin rebuild kits and she will be ready to be beat on.

Started to swap the cam today, I'll have to drill and tap the spider bosses. And either they changed the oil regularly of this is a crate motor in here. Very clean to have 76k miles on it.

Finally moved into my house, and just got the k5 over here today. Need to build some shelves to get a little more floor space and I'll probably start pulling the engine tomorrow. Then while I'm waiting on parts for it, tackle the rear suspension

Got the engine out this morning, need to clean it all up, want to check the mains, rod and cam bearings. Doing screw I rocket studs, trim down the valve guides, then get the heads shaved a little. Doing the comp XFI 252 roller cam,
Performer intake, and headers. Going to buy the programmable ECM that's plug and play, but haven't decided if I want to do some bowl work and gasket match the ports on the heads.

Remember to take the intake for them to shave to match the heads

After a lot of internal debate, I've decided I'm just gonna do an injector spacer, performer intake and the vortec roller cam with headers for now. I just want it running and driving again so I can do the suspension and swap the 60 in. I'll build a 383 or something later on when I do the doubler.

Got the cam in, just need to clean the engine up and paint it, I'll need to buy a few sensors before I put the engine back in to. Started designing my front slider boxes. I'm working on the mounting points now but I think I can locate it off of the shack mount rivet holes. Welding it on would be ideal but who knows I might start making these to sell if they work out alright, and bolt on would be more ideal.

Ended up just doing the cam swap, edelbrock intake, injector pod spacer, 14 PSI FPR spring, vortec fuel pump, and headers. Hoping the 30 degrees more duration intake and exhaust wakes it up, but doesn't require much if any tuning with the 117 LSA the vortec cam has. When I pulled the pan I could still see the cross hatch pattern on the cylinder bores. So I just cleaned up the engine and painted it. Still haven't sat it in yet but hopefully I'll get to that this week.

However I did the rear shackle flip and 56 inch spring swap out back. up front I was lucky to find that the frame behind the steering box is perfect no cracks or anything even after cleaning it up with a flapper wheel. I did design the slider boxes for the front and just saved the SolidWorks file for future reference. I went ahead and bought some DIY4x front shackle hangers, mocked up the front 52 inch springs and mocked up the cross over steering.

Lately I've been looking at parts to build my own driveshafts. Planning on running single cardon 1410 driveshafts front and rear. Also got a 10 spline NP203 for free, and so it looks like I'll build a 203/205 doubler sometime in the spring. Still need to either buy some 15s to run on the 1 tons or find some tires for these 17s I've got. really would just like to find some 42 inch iroks or some 43 TSL/SXs and just leave the 38.5s on my jeep. I'll add some pics here in a few mins.

How it sits right now, need to get another set of 56s, one of my leafs were cracked. I have yet to build my front spring hangers and I need to take to over load leaf out of the 52s spring pack . But it's actually sitting on 1 tons now.
