I have a floor jack, plus if, needed I have an engine hoist. But it very slowly lowers on its own.

I used these for my spring swap. Had to put blocks on my hydraulic Jack to get the frame high enough but these went more than high enough to keep the truck suspended for a spring swap.

I have some Hein Werner 12 ton stands, they go up to right at 30". I haven't needed bigger stands yet.

a cheaper solution: Go buy some 4x4 wood posts. Cut to approx 18" lengths. Build cribbing to go under your (6 ton?) jack stands. Only works safely on level ground. Add screws (or timber screws) for added security, depending on what you want to do. If you think you will use $250 worth of tall jack stand in your life, then the link pair are great. But if you are planning 1 or 2 jobs ever, just go the cribbing method.

Before my 3 ton hydro jack I was using the bottle jack from my 3 ton press and had to build cribbing for it. I’ve used that cribbing several times since in tandem with the big jack stands. I recommend you get the big stands and build the cribbing.

the K5 pictured above needed the axle front axle removed. 30” won’t do the job with the leafs drooped out. Same with the rear when we swapped the leafs and shackles. Of course you can get creative with wood but it starts getting sketchy real quick.

When I take my truck to get the exhaust done by the shop (they do everything) who has a lift. I will ask what the charge would be to swap the springs. For the costs and options above, seems just paying the labor may be cheaper and safer in the long run.

thanks for the ideas above.

I have a 5 ton floor jack that will lift 36". I put the tall stands behind the axle, in pictures above I had 6 notches showing, @ 4 left. my tires where @ 1" off the ground.

I have 4 of those stands too, they don’t compare in the stability department. Even a truck on 35’s I’ll use the taller stands.
good deal.

I am going to skip the intermediate stands and go straight to 2 post 10 ton lift.

I have those sumner folding stands. Very handy but a little tall in their lowest setting for the smaller lift trucks.

Interesting, are you doing this with the tires on? I built my truck using the 12 tons and have had both axles out a couple of times since without issue. I can put the stands behind the FUSH hanger and let the jack drop the axle(s) down on to a pair of HF car dollies. Maybe the difference is the custom drop hangers / shackles on the 1st gen?
