Jamar "Hydraulic Park Lock"

Well, well... they've got a tricky little site there. It wont let me do anything now without creating an acct. Seems like a good way to drive off folks that are shopping. :surepal:

It's just like the old Mico-lok not really along term parking brake , but definetly good when it's running


You wouldn't want to set that and leave it on for summer , when your not plowing
 
The Jamar part is only about $40, not too bad. I've used a ball valve before, it never gave me any trouble but I did forget to turn if off once which caused some "issues". The Jamar is supposed to automatically release if you apply the brakes again.

LOL no plowing here! I just need something to hold the truck if I want to get out while it's running (close the shop door, etc). I'm curious if it would also block off rear pressure if I wanted to do a burn out or dig the rear tires in for winching.

$40 isn't bad, I think I paid $30 on ebay. I got the idea for the one I bought from the instigator build over on Pirate.

The one Chris posted looks pretty good too.
 
that would be a NO. You have to hold pressure to set and it releases by putting your foot on the brake. Now the other two shown with a lever valve and no auto shut off would work for what you want to do.

Ok, I was afraid of that. I've used the ball valve to do all this, I was just liking the auto off feature of the Jamar and hoping there was a way around it.
 
If you forget to turn your ball valve on, it just smells like the guy in front of you is burning his clutch. Which he was, so I have half an excuse. I have the same one as Chris.
 
I have an electric version of a line lock plumbed into both my front and rear brakes. Exact same concept just that an electric solenoid controls the valve. This makes it a lot simpler to plumb into the brake lines since you don't have to route them into the cab, rather just a couple wires and a switch.....but does rely on electric power to work. I installed these probably 10 years ago and never had any problems. Obviously not a long-term parking brake but I use them on the trail when having to stop and get out on a hill or something like that. Not sure how long they would hold but have had them on for at least 30+ minutes at a time with no apparent leakdown. Did accidentally leave them on overnight with the engine off which drained the battery. Honestly never tried using them to block off brake pressure but would probably work on this style since there is no automatic release.

For this you would need a on/off switch not a momentary switch though......

Also a ball valve can be bought a lot cheaper @ your local parts stores than all the ones linked above.
 
I would hope so.......unless it doesn't have a plumbing section! lol

I don't see the point of using a cheap plumbing valve to save 15-$20, it's your brakes after all. I'd also question the PSI rating of on of those local store bought units, the one I posted is 7K+

Your also not asking it to stop for you....in a standard stop a vehicle uses 700-800psi. So sitting still and using a 7k ball valve is a little over kill. But to each there own, I've used one for years as well as some buddies w/o any issue.

no I'm not using it to stop or hold the vehicle alone but a leaky valve, no fluid = no brakes right? And from what I can tell 1/4" ball valves are rated at a max psi of 600 at home depot. Again, to save $15-20? doesn't make any sense to me when I can buy the one I linked for $30 and not have to fck with it again.
