So today I was out with my girlfriend grabbin lunch when I was a blazer. Naturally I complimented him, it was clean no doubt. Then we got to talking and I noticed he had a 14b ff so I asked him about his install. He tells me how he had to move the spring plates and I look at the welds......and I notice they're really liquid looking. He then explains to me he used jb weld to weld the spring plates back and he uses it for crossmembers, shock tabs, etc. I keep a straight face, finish up my conversation and I leave......has anyone ever seen, done or heard of this? I thought I was in the twilight zone. This seems so unsafe and lazy to me, anyone have any input?

Yes it is safe, I'm currently building a rollcage out of copper and JB weld

I was gonna snap a couple but I didn't want to look nosy to the guy, idk what my face looked like when he told me and I didn't want to insult the man.

You really should have. That's flippin just stupid unsafe. There is a reason welding is invented and jb for other uses. Maybe he would have learned something if it takes a mocking.

what color blazer? so I can steer clear...

A really nice grey and dark blue color and oh my god someone from campbell, how's it goin neighbor?

as long as he didn't use the jb kuik weld...:haha:

Now why do you go making fun of me. :haha:

I hadn't seen that pic in ages, so I've been trying to keep an eye out for it the last 6 months or so to save.. lo and behold a totally unrelated search the other day brought it up.. score! Darwinism at it's finest! :haha:

I mean I could see using alot of jb weld for an overnight trail fix...but permently is just dumb. I prefer masking tape tho

That is just a wow, I mean a huge wow. Thats insane I wonder how many times he fixes stuff.

I mean I have seen JB weld hold some stuff pretty impressively I would think you could get off the trail with JB weld on your perches if you were careful and really cranked down on the u bolts, but shock tabs crossmembers etc.

Wow I mean wow

I wonder if the guy was jerking your chain? Seriously, I can't imagine anyone with the mechanical know how to swap a rear end or add a crossmember being stupid enough to trust JB weld in those applications.

I guess you saw the "welds" with your own eyes though...

To be fair he put some dam nice circles in that weld(not really), but he didn't clean up the runs he kinda left them like running down his axle and making a frozen drip on the bottom.

Damn I was in Campbell last night/ this morning. I could have been killed.

it was an 1990 k5 so itll also leave a mess of ATF on the road and the driveshaft will be on the sidewalk

true story:
I used to drive truck and switched to a new company because the pay was a lot better. unfortunately their trucks were crap. one day I'm not too busy and see them pulling a motor out of a truck that had just left the shop the day before. when I asked what was up, the mechanic told me that the motor had a leak between 2 of the cylinders and the head of the shop had made them fix it with JB weld. obviously it blew out pretty much as soon as it hit the road.

those dumbasses pulled **** like that all the time (tried to fix a hole in a fuel filter with a sticker). I couldn't wait to get the F out of there before they killed someone.
