jeep stuff and now a volvo!

I guess It's just me, but i would only want a 4 door. Perhaps I want the Cherokee for different reasons then others but I would have no interest in the 2 doors.

I dont like the 4 doors cuz the rear doors are so small I'm not that tall and my news hit getting in and out of the back seat on 4 door xj's

I hear ya. I guess i just am not too worried about it sense i would be the driver all of the time and any body else that i give rides to probably wont mind. Having dogs, its mostly for the convenience of having the cargo area cordoned off with one of those dog gate deals for my stuff and having the dogs in the back seat area. I know i could also do that with a two door, but pro vs. con for myself personally, the pros favor the 4 door. I had an 89 for a few months but then i bought the blazer and the jeep went bye bye quick fast! Now, seeing the light, i think the jeep would have been a more practical choice. Drove it on a 650 mile round trip one time and it averaged 17 mpg. Oh well... Live and learn.

EDIT: Just for fun, here is a pic of the jeep i had.

thats a pretty clean lookin 89' those early ones get good mileage.

mine went 201 miles on 17.4 gal
11.55mpg. all in town though. i dont get out much.

i have both 4 and 2dr now. i like the 2 better. the front doors are longer so you can get your arm up on the window frame alot more comfortably, your elbow isnt hitting on the rear of it. also it feels bigger in the drivers seat too since the door window goes past you instead of being in your line of sight when you look to the side. the main reason i wanted a 2dr was for wheeling you can cut the body up alot more without that durn door in the way. it doesnt really take any longer to get the kids in than with the 4dr either.

the only thing i dont like is that they changed the drivers seat on the 97 and up. the seat back doesnt fold forward at all. the 96' and older ones folded for better rear access.

no updates yet. been working by d--k off. apparently everybody wanted their diffs overhauled this week.

im not sure. when you are in town it doesnt drive like its way under geared. i can shift it under light throttle at 2000rpm and still keep up with traffic pretty well.

i took it for a highway trip yesterday. it barely accelerates in 5th gear on flat land. well actually it barely hold speed in 5th gear on flat land. hit a hill and you have to down shift atleast 1 gear if not 2. it will do 80mph in 3rd. i did go 80 miles and only used a 1/4 tank. not bad.

i need to decide on gears soon. im thinking 4.10s. maybe 4.56. i kinda like the low rpm cruisability. im going to use the gear calculator and see how the rpms work with 35" tires.

With a 6 you should be a step lower than with a V8 for a certain size tire. You should at least have 4.10's in there now.

My buddy has a Wrangler TJ on 33's with 3.73 gears and it's not much better than it was with the 3.07's.

Loving where this build is going. I love the non fullsize capable rigs for weaving in the woods. 31s-34s is really where Im at tire wise now :D

Any who the Trooper has 4.56s stock. Similar size, maybe a little heavier. V6 5 speed, 33s. I think its perfect although my highway RPM seems so high I think its just from being used to a v8 truck lugging along happily at 70mph and 2200rpms...

I will say when my truck was on stock 28in tires with 4.56s holy crap was 1st gear short. ALMOST granny short. Considering Im sure the I6 has more pep than my 190k v6 turd that 4.10s would probably be adequate.

I realize I should be going lower. I had 33s and 4.10s in my Rubicon. It was so-so. But im also trying to do a super cheap build. Used 4.56 gears just aren't easy to find. Used 4.10s are. I just missed a set for $40 the other day. Also a tj is about 500lbs heavier than my xj. No joke.

I have been following your build. Looks like you are kinda doing the same thing. A driver/wheeler. Sometimes smaller wheels just as good as big. We have alot of tight trails and trees around here. So as long as the ruts aren't too deep the smaller rigs do really well.

I wish! Unfortunately I have sold myself that in order to sell the blazer I would need to break even on it which means it needs to sell for about $3000. And i just don't see that happening.

i was just looking at the add for that blue jeep. he claims every option available.....

thats wierd. no heated seats. no tow hooks. no sunroof. i see a few its missing. ha ha.....craigslist.....gotta love it.

i put the spartan in this morning. its barely noticable. mainly parking lot manuevers.
i did pull the carrier out to do it. it only takes 5 minutes more. and makes it easier to get to the roll pin.

i modded the snorkel tube so its farther away from the lf tire. no pic though. then i was thinking about rain going down the snorkel inlet since i live in oregon.....so i turned it around. HOLY CRAP! its loud now. I LIKEY!

no money spent. free gear oil (redline 75-140 even)and rtv from work

anyhoo onto the pics.

i tested it onthe hoist and it was loud. a very noticeable clank as it ratcheted, but i dont even hear it over the radio and the busted exhaust manifold.

speaking of exhaust manifolds...i remembered the other day that i had a newer one that had the flex pieces on it. but i coouldnt remember what happened to it. i was thinking maybe i gave it to my buddy or my brother. so i called my buddy and asked him if he had it. he said "i just saw it in the rafters of your garage right above youre tool box yesterday when i was there". so i strolled out to the garage and looked....i found it rigt where he said it was. saweet! so as soon as i get somebody to weld my 99' and up intake, i can get that crap on there. i hate exhaust leaks.

did some more body mods. cut and folded the rear fenders so as not to cut my tires up. lost the bumper corners too. thew where all beat up and loose.

removed the rear sway bar. i would have removed the front one but my brake lines are too short. i think thats my next mod. quick disconnects and brake lines.

a few friends and myself went wheeling saturday night. got to tsf at about 9pm. got home around 2am. we did a couple easy trails since we had a couple of stockish rigs with no lockers with us. then my brother, myself and a buddy with a rubicon did a black diamond and a double black diamond while the others watched and made fun.

this thing went pretty much everywhere i pointed it with just a front locker (which makes some LOUD noises on the trail). there was one ledge i couldnt get on to and ended up winching. other than that, it did great. even the cheap mastercraft tires did alot better than expected. they appear to be a descent compound. no chunking or any other crap.

the rear cut and fold job i did on the fenders was insufficient. cut my tires a little and bent the fender flare mounts up. so more work to be done there before i go again

i also caught a stump on the left side, put a dent behind the driver's door and bent the flare mount back. whoops! its coo though, thats why i got this thing.

next time we will go during the day so i can snap some pics of the during instead of the after:rolleyes:
