this explains the difference between the 8.5 and 8.6 bearing and race part numbers. It also list the conversion bearing and race to use an 8.6 carrier in the 8.5 housing.

Great info. I found a little bit of other info on another thread that confirms others have used those bearings as well.
To summarize, if you want to put an 8.6 carrier (or locker) into an 8.5 housing, you need
Bearing LM102949 with an ID of 1.78" (to fit the 8.6 carrier)
Race LM102911 with an OD of 2.89" (to fit the 8.5 housing bearing caps)

To be clear, I have not yet installed the parts and confirmed this, right now it's only info from the internet.

This is what I used to put the 8.6 Detroit's in my 8.5 housings, LM102949 and LM192911.

So the H3 has to have ZM6 off-road option to have the e-locker?

I can't confirm specific option code, but I do know there were only certain models that received the locker.
