just bought 73 has np208. am i in full time 4WD

Are you sure it is a NP208 and not the factory installed NP203? Locking hubs are completely seperate from the transfer case so they don't determine how the t-case works. If you truly have a NP208 transfer case it would be considered "part-time", meaning you choose between either 2wd or a 4 locked position (not really suitable for dry pavement running), regardless of whether it has locking hubs or not. Having drive flanges like this is just equivalent to running around with the hubs locked in but the t-case in 2wd, which isn't an issue (most newer 4wd vehicles don't have locking hubs).

according to what i've seen & read, the 208 has the one piece tailshaft. Thats whats on this one. Also, the gear shifter doesn't have the loc position like the manual said the NP203 would have, must have been changed as well. Thanks for the quick reply. Sounds like it should be fine.

The shifters will not interchange. Is the t-case body aluminum or cast iron?

tcase cast iron ? or aluminum ?

if cast iron and no loc positions on shifter then 205.

if aluminum then 208-up. check the round id tag on the back of the case.

208c / 241c = model of case and c=chevy

and if aluminum then not stock for 73. thay are 80's and up.

73 would be 203 or 205 . i am betting 205 .

click link and go to transfer case section. pics of 205 and 208/241 and doubler kits. http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog.htm

non orignal then. swaped in to the truck.

it is a part time case so lock the hubs and pull the stick.

if i recall its 2wd/4wd/n/4wdlow . and this is front to back.

b sure to change out the auto hubs to manual ones...may seem like a pain havin to get out and lock em, but the autos have a tendency to fail...

73 would be drive slugs. not 80's auto hubs.

but being swaped tcase could be possible.

easy to fix these tho. undo the slugs or auto hubs and pop in good ones.

thanks for the info. are the hubs hard to change. do u recommend any?

Personally I like the spicer locks, they are the strongest, but sometimes people have a hard time turning the dial.
The easier ones are WARN, or SUPERWINCH, or MILE MARKER. to mention a few.
People seem to like WARN the best.
If you need some help, I am in Elk Grove often, let me know.

sound like i need to do some shopping for hubs. thanks for offering help, much appreciated. its my first 4x4 project, lots of trial & error ahead.

Having the slugs in place doesn't really hurt anything unless you spend a bunch of time at high speeds on the highway.
