Just bought a CUCV for $625.

Meh, I mowed a deer down with my Blazer intentionally this summer. It didn't get any uglier . . . . . . . . .

Of course I guess I could let John drive it if I installed a grille guard.

I was going to go there, but didn't. :haha:Stick would have still gotten through the grill guard.

Do these things use a special flasher? This has a #536 in it instead of a standard #522. The blinkers don't flash. I installed a 522, and they still wouldn't flash. Is there a difference?

Martin

Far as I remember a 536 was the "stock" flasher,if you wanted a heavy duty one for trailer towing that'll handle up to 6 bulbs,a #552 flasher was what you'd use....usually the 4 way flasher was a cheap plastic #536 and the directional one was metal and a #552 was already installed in the trucks I had--both flashers might need to be good to let the directionals work too..

The Hazards work.

I'm assuming this means the service light switch is already on then. I always swap the turn and hazard flashers to troubleshoot when one works and the other doesn't. If that reverses the problem, you know it was the flasher. If nothing changes then you are looking elsewhere with a test light for where the power stops.

I swapped flashers, that just made the hazards not work. That's why I thought maybe it took some special flasher.

How about these lights? What was their purpose?

Why, Martin...why? :doah:

but I would take thing and lights

I'm second in line for the lights. One of mine is now broken.

The lights are for driving a stealthy convoy at night. If you get a line of these things going they can follow each other via these colored lights (instead of using the normal service lights). One of the 2 extra switches at bottom left of dashboard should allow you to choose between the normal service lights and these special "blackout lights." In both the "blackout" position and the "off" position, normal lights are disabled (that's why Kenny asked about the switch position).

There should also be a small blackout light inside that hole in the driver's side of the grill, and that would be operated with the second extra switch. It projects a faint light on the ground in front of the vehicle. That light, on a dark night, will allow you to move forward with a spotter, and it's just about invisible to anyone standing more than 10 feet away.

Pretty neat stuff. Not sure who has a use for them, unless you have a bunch of CUCV-owning friends, AND you like sneaking around at night (as if the rumble of a 6.2 isn't enough of a give-away). But they are a neat piece of military heritage. :thumb:

Blackout lights are only useful against enemies that do not have night vision capabilities.

The wiring in this thing has been highly cobbled. I found that switch behind the dash, I should see if it will make the headlights work. Currently the headlights are wired to a toggle switch that was just hanging down under the dash. If you pull on the headlight switch, the park lights come on, but not the headlights.
