If motor, trans, transfar case are in good shape. Then check the front wheel bearings, might need to be serviced or adjusted. Check all the tie rod ends and u joints for wear, change all the fluids. Check all 4 brake to know what kind of shape they are in.

What do you think of the truck?

I think, if you want to keep it somewhat stock, or you want to keep money in your wallet.....you have come to the wrong place;) :D (CK5)

Seriously though, truck looks like a good starting point for what ever direction you want to go, and as far as the gearing goes if I had to guess, maybe 3.42's for that year and drivetrain, could be wrong though :wink1:

Welcome to the addiction! Check the frame around the steering box for cracks, replace the auto hubs with manual and fix that tail pipe! But looks like a good start.

would you happen to know what the stock rear gears are?

Would hope they are 3.73, but they also offered 3.42 and 3.08.
You can always put a mark on your drive shaft and wheel, then turn the wheel 1 full revolution and count how many times the driveshaft goes around to figure out the gear ratio.

If you are going to change the fuild in the axles just get the # off thr ring gear when you have the covers off.

My 1987 has 3:08 check your glove box for the RPO if no one changed them I can tell you from the RPO.

learn from my experience!

CHECK YOUR DIFFERENTIAL OIL!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY differential grenaded on me because the oil was bad and it wasnt lubricating the gears right. A piece on the gear pierced right threw the differential cover it was a mess!!! Your local lube shop should be able to change your gear oil for about 50 to 80 bux . Or you could do it your self if you know how to. All you need is the gear oil, a pump to transfer fluid, some silicon and the gasket.

The frame is solid , the tail pipe im fixing by rippaing the whole exhaust system out an putting true dual exhaust with headers, usskoval im changing the tires within the next couple days, im going up to 35s instead of the tiny 33s being that i have a 4 inch lift.
I have yet to check all the fluid
