Just bought a new gmc sierra! *trip report post 247*

And this is why I will never be able to not have the old trucks. Look at the clearance difference!

thx....thats impressive for 1/2t trucks....That is what my 99-2500 is rated.

It is fairly impressive. I take it with a grain of salt tho. It is still a 10 bolt rear end after all. I do plan on one day swapping it out with the 14 bolt sf that the max tow packages get. Those trucks are rated for like 10,700lbs.

I really like your truck! I don't think I have it in me to lift mine tho. I'm just saying that stock to stock, the 12 would be totalled and the 78 would hardly have a scratch on it in an off road situation.

I hear ya man. If I didnt buy it this way it would have been hard for me to vouch to the wife for the lift and tires and all else needed on my 08 i traded in. I was at 93k miles and had $8200 left to pay. I drive 120 miles a day MINIMUM...
so example is I havent made my first truck payment and I have 2500 miles on it (in 3 weeks!!!!!)

I buy to drive.. dont care about keeping low miles... but you are right.. i was asked if I take it offroad.. I said.. havent made the first payment so the answer is NO... and I dont see it hitting the woods until my 13 yr old can drive in 4 years to which I will still owe 2 years on it!!!!!!

definitely love my 78 for the abuse part... but she is on CL right now.. sad day... asking a lot only because i dont have to sell it and I am giving A LOT with it....

still got em....I'll put em on the Maiden!...:haha::haha:

Nice truck every time I look in this thread makes me want to go buy my buddies 07 nbs 1/2 ton sierra with the lq9 vortec max.

2 questions from a way to drunk to have a puter member.

1. Why is your driveway gated?

2. How does it do pulling a burb around, a 1/2 ton struggled to pull mine, abit mine is much bigger and heavier, but just "axing"

Lol the driveway is gated cause the yard is fenced for the dogs.

It tows pretty good! My route was only like 10 miles and only took me up to 45mph. But, it gets to 45 good and the trailer didn't push it around. Stops pretty nice too but the trailer has trailer brakes. The integrated trailer brake in the truck that you can dial in is pretty bad ass. I would say that I wouldn't choose a 1/2 ton if i were to tow a similar load frequently. A Toyota based trail rig or a couple atvs would be just right for this truck. A burb or heavy loads of fire wood regularly would be better suited for a 3/4 ton or at least the "max trailer" package 1/2 ton which comes with the 14blt semi float rear. I found myself worrying about the rear end when taking off from stops on inclines and pulling hard out into traffic although I'm sure the worry wasn't all that warranted. It is still just a 10 bolt tho... Anyway it does a good job.

You're not going to break a new 10bolt by pulling out into traffic. If you had engine mods and bigger tires then you can start worrying :screwy:

Ahhh, dogs make sense. My neighbors have theirs fenced like that for the same reason. Cept I live out side of town pretty far.

And, thanks. I was curious to see how it did. Mine weighs in at 6900lbs or so, and the trailer I use is extremely heavy, over 2000lbs atleast, and the 1/2 tonner struggled a bit. But we was trying for 60mph or so. Now, the 3/4 with the 8.1 doesnt struggle at all. But, seeing as you have the newer 5.3, and the one I had was older and had less hp, curiousness got the best of me. But, I do really like that color of the crew cab, beautiful truck.

I think the variable valve timing really helps. And being as the burb and trailer only weighs 6900lbs isn't so bad.

Mine is a pig I guess. I'm thinkin mine with trailer comes in around 9500 or so, give or take a bit. I have been wanting to drive a new one like that to see how much better they are than the older models.

I think actually, probably what really helps it to not feel like a slug is the super deep first gear! That and the VVT is the hot ticket I think. And i THINK you have to get a slt or ltz to get the all aluminum lc9 motor that mine has. Not that it does any more power but weight savings is always a good thing !

Didn't know they were putting aluminum motors in the trucks now. I love aluminum blocks, even on the coldest of days my LS3 starts putting heat out by the time I reach the end of my street :waytogo:
