Just bought a new gmc sierra! *trip report post 247*

The TM is annoying in my Tahoe. It slows down to shift. And when I have to stomp on it there's a long pause before she downshifts and goes
That is shift points and has nothing to do with TM.

Been thinking about a tune for my 04 Tahoe. The shift points are kinda soft. Whats else can a tune do for a stock ride?
Shift firmness can be increased and it will increase tranny life and lower tranny temps. Factory setup is for comfort, lots of slipping and creating heat!.

Shift times by MPH and RPM changed to more performance feel then the big ol slush. This alone can change the way the vehicle drives completely!

Most PCMs from mid 90's to new have no PE = Power Enrichment so when your floor it it's still at Stoich/14.7 to 1 AFR. The delay is so long the only time PE is enabled is to cool CATS on a long hill.

Cat protection kills any power after a short burst.

O2 switchpoints changed for better milage at cruise and more power at any TPS position you want.

Question about torque management.

What is the computer doing during this?
What are they using it for?

I have a good idea, but just want to be clear.
.
TM is taking away spark and killing power. It's main purpose is emissions and not to save transmission or drive train. 80 to 100% can be removed and no ill effects if done properly. The rumor of removing TM and killing transmissions is from removing TM from the wrong place!

FYI, a tune has made quite the difference in my Tahoe. I highly recommend you do it. Much better throttle response, more power, and it shifts right :waytogo:

A little late on this one lol but I've got around 175k miles and haven't had any issues with the dod. Only time I have to add oil is when there's about 30% oil life left or around 9000 miles in. My truck is getting 17.3mpg and holding. I'm running 285/70r17 bfg mt on my 07. My dad has a avalanche with the 6 speed and is only getting 18 and drives like a little ol lady lol but swears if the transmission wasn't always trying to find the right gear he would be getting better. Also the upper ball joints are weak I'm on my 3rd set and don't offroad either.

What i wouldnt do to have that be my life...

On a side note, here is what my truck would look like if i had something to compensate for! Cant deny that it looks NICE! Love the look!

At some point, I will level it and get some more aggressive tires(toyo mt's or nitto mt's) on it. And thats it. THere is a chance i could become bored with the wheels and get nicer wheels, but i kinda doubt it. My LONG term plans with this truck are pretty bad ass in my opinion. First step is getting a new house so i can park it in a garage like it deserves. Then, Do the level and tires. After that comes the real fun. Im going to re gear it to 3.73 (with the 14 boltsf) and swap in a 2014 6.2! The 420hp 450tq unit! At the same time, i might swap over to the 6l90 trans. We'll see. But i also want to do a set of good quality stainless long tube headers. And thats about it. Then, i just want to take good care of it. I want to get a different vehicle for a DD and just use the 12 for fun stuff.

That is a nice truck.. only problem im having right now is the price of the shoes for these things.. my MT Baja are $425 each... and the pro comps are even more!!!!

22.2mpg from my house to the beach. Not bad!

wow mine is at 15.2 average.. and i actually am calculating 18.5ish each time i get gas (every 2 days)

how many miles you have on the truck now? i have 8250 i believe...

It has 10,586.

Changed the oil and rotated the tires today! I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the 33x12.5-18 toyo mt's on it when I level it. But that won't be for at least a year. I better start saving now! I have literally been dreaming of a DFI 6.2 swap in this thing... Give that one a few years...

If I didn't need need the clearance at my farm I wouldve left mine stock. The upper ball joint wear fast in these trucks with a larger tire I'm on my third set. A coworker had to replace his at 60000 miles I've replaced at 20-30k mile intervals since leveling and larger tires. The upper ball joints aren't the cheapest. Other than that they sure do look good lol.

that is why i like the fabtech 6" on my truck... even though I didnt install it... the searching I have done said that everything is level creating even wear on everything... axles and balljoints... I will get to tell you within a year how it all goes... my only problem is tires as I dont know how long they will last and I drive 120 miles a day minimum but around that...

that is the only problem with big trucks (especially with 20" rims) as mine are $425 each or at least that is the cheapest I have found.:eek1:

The problem is the upper ball joints on these trucks are tiny and wear out fast. The cognito arms have a tougher, replaceable ball joint in them. I think the first time i have to do ball joints i will just install the cognito arms.
