Just bought a new gmc sierra! *trip report post 247*

Went riding today and had a blast! Truck did great! Hauled all the gear, 3 quads and a dirt bike. No problems. And still did 15.4 mpg! Love this truck.

So aperently these trucks have a speed limiter on them of about 98mph... Don't worry, wife took the pic.

All gm vehicles have for a while. Hits pretty violently too. The first vortecs cut fuel, not sure what the newer ones do. On the older ones you has to back a ways off before it would run right again

When I get a newer truck, and I want a 14 z71 in the worst way, it's getting tuned ASAP. If I feel the need to go past 98 that's my decision, not the computers. If I want the throttle to open to 100%, that's my decision, not the computers.

Rant off.

Oh and the onstar is getting shutoff.

Agreed, these trucks run so much better tuned. No more torque management, no more computer slowly applying the throttle. When you stomp it, it actually stomps back. I'll never be able to drive on a factory tune again :deal:

Must be something on the newer trucks, unless previous owner had it messed with. The '05 here is electronic throttle and it moves as soon as you hit the throttle, just as quick. Never had it to 98 though, gotten pretty reserved in the older age I guess. :D

80-85 is about the fastest I think I have had it. Of course I don't drive that fast anyways due to the rapid fuel consumption at those higher rates of speed. :doah:

My throttle is pretty instantaneous. But I'm sure it lags to some degree with the factory tune. I can't wait to get a tune on mine but I'm nervous about it knocking my mpg down since this thing does so good right now!

The factory tuning is rich, there's power and mpg to be had by leaning it out with a tune.

Its funny, you sound like everyone else who's new to tuning and is very apprehensive about doing it. I used to be until I did it and now I wonder why I didn't do it sooner.

Everything I've driven with electronic throttle feels like it's lagging or slow to me. The GF's Malibu is pretty good, but it's definitely noticeable.

my 2013 z-92 just hit 36k miles.... it has a custom tune and no 98 restriction... we wont say why i know... plus a truck on 35's shouldnt be going that fast but have to see what it can do once....

Nice man! Mostly, im just too much of a chicken to risk voiding my warranty! That and its like $500-$600 for a tune.

I don't know who you're talking to about a tune, but average prices are typically half that :screwy:

Black bear and Diablew. Seems blackbear was going to be $550? Am i High?

I've heard good things about Blackbear and his prices are competitive except you have to buy a Diablo hand held to load the tune onto your truck.

I'd recommend going to a local shop. That's what I did and that way you know your truck will be tuned 100% to your truck not just a generic plug in.

You don't void your warranty by tuning. GM has been really smart with putting people on new car/truck forums to tell them it voids warranties and you must use dealer service.
