I just bought my first blazer. It is a 1970 K5 blazer. It has no roll cage. Can anybody offer any kind of advice on how to find my first roll cage and how to find a hard top. I am new to this. I just graduate college and this is something I have always wanted to do. Any advice is welcome.

well it depends. you could call an auto dismantler or go online to hemmings motor news and check the chevy classifieds (they have everything there and im 100% sure they will have a hard top for a '70 blazer). as for the roll cage, you might be able to have one custom made or get one out of another truck at a junkyard. check around and online. ebay too

Another good thing to do (and I haven't had a chance to do it yet, but will on Friday) is become a paying member on this site. The 25 dollars it costs opens up a whole world of information and parts, including the classifieds here on the site. Plus the regional listings that may find someone close to you that has a top or cage that you could pick up for a fair price. The people here are great, and in the few weeks I have been registered they have given me a huge amount of information and advice. What we have here is invaluable, especially for your first K5, because you will have lots of questions.

I have been wrenching on vehicles for most of my life, and just wish something like this was around when I was younger, I would have bought my K5 years ago.

Oh and post pics we all want to see.

Too bad your not a little closer, pick and pull has 2 blazers with roll bars just waiting to come out extra cheap!

Congrats on the new Blazer. I would recommend looking at the year specific forum that is avaliable for your rig. Look around on the forum and you will figure out how it works pretty quick.

Craigslist and Ebay are also good sources for parts and info. There are several members on here from the Carolinas, maybe they could help you with finding parts. Dontoe comes to mind, but I don't know his specific location.

Check out LMC trucks. They have a year specific, or at least they should have magazine that can list out every part you would be interested in.

Congrats on the new rig and welcome to CK5. As metioned above paying the $25.00 membership fee is not required, but well worth it most peoples opinion.

TBB

Now get some pics up so we can see it.

He lives in Hickory, NC...but is on his way to Tellico right now.

Cool! I live in Charlotte too! Congrats on the new truck! I bet you are loving that you don't need any inspection!:D Are you wanting a rollbar, a ready made style cage, or a fab shop to make one? Good luck with the search!

25 + years old dont have inspection

pre 96 dont have emisions just safty inspection

Actually, I believe it's 35 years and older rigs=no inspection! Pre 96 is called safety only but also includes a visual inspection of required emissions systems as listed in the inpections book (basically a quick once over to make sure the stuff is there that's supposed to be). I have gotten way more familiar with inspection laws than I would like lately since finding out the engine swap I had originally planned won't pass on my 87. But, anyways, that's a topic for another time, good luck on the new rig!

Big Blzn -- Yes I hadn't made my payment yet, but notice that I have done it now.
