that I got from 3car to put my TBI into my 82 cab. Boy, does all that wiring look intimidating:(:(:( He include the fuse block and everything, so I`m not sure what I need, and don`t need...which makes it worse....:(:( All part of learning, I suppose....

Anyone that is using TBI in a non TBI truck want to share some info? What part of the wiring is completely necessary?

BTW MODS, would ya mind moving this to the Injection Section? TIA!

I used a painless harness, The donor truck I got all the connectors broke, so it was easier, and it comes with some good instructions. So, I guess i'm no help to you.

Start thinking "I need everything" then when you know exactly what you are looking at, determine if you need AIR, EVAP, EGR and stuff like the alternator wiring, etc.

If you start trying to reduce the mess before you understand it, you may think you are cutting out AC wiring, only to find you cut the MAP sensor connector.

Alright, I have what looks to be two sections of the harness. The TBI section, then the fuse block and everything else. When I originally got it, it was just the TBI part, but I had asked him to include the fuse block. Maybe now that its in two parts, it will be easier on me. If believe the harness is still there for the 82, but if I get an aftermarket harness/fuseblock, will that allow me to NOT use the factory fuseblock? Or maybe I should take my time, and convert it all over to the ryoken setup.....

I have identified a few parts on the TBI sect. of the harness, such as the injector plugs, which leads me to believe that`s the stuff I need. The only thing I`m not sure if, is they`re is a big plug on one end, that looks like it plugs into the firewall. Does that mean I have to use the fuseblock I got from the 89 as well? There were also 5 wires cut that went from the ecm to the fuse block, but those should be somewhat easy to find....

You have the entire fuseblock for the 89? If so, seperate the two blocks, if you have wiring diagrams, go through the wiring, and identify and tape all the wires writing what they are, so you know exactly what each one goes too, it will take time, but you'll be able to figure it out much easier. just take your time with it, and you'll be fine.

I`m having a tough time finding a good diagram for the 89`s wiring. What do you mean by seperating the two blocks? The fuseblock, then the piece that goes on the outside of the cab?

When you look at the fuse block, there should be two seperated sections that plug into the box facing the engine bay. I believe one section is for the lighting, power for the interior, and ect. And the other is for the motor and accessory components.

So the two plugs that plug into the firewall? If so, I have the motor part unplugged.

Yeah, exactly. the wiring for the interior and rear taillights and whatnot I would assume would be the same, or close too. I'll try and find a wiring diagram for the engine. I herd the diagrams in the books are junk or i'd say to go pick one up.

Well, I`m going to print out whatever I can, then use that to label everything. Thanks MAN!

Well I printed out a bunch of diagrams and a picture, but I`m still confused. I`m going by this picture, and not much is the same as what`s sitting on my dining room table. I don`t see the ALDL port, as well as alot of other things in that picture.

Where the ECM plugs are, I have like 5 or 6 wires there, that have been cut. I believe 3car said they went to the fuse block?

The only thing I`ve been able to indentify, with this picture, and my misunderstanding of the diagrams, is the ECM plugs, and the injectors.

Should I take some pictures of what I have?

Here`s some pics:

These are the 6 wires that were cut:

This looks to be missing something, I know he said the knock sensor connector broke, is this where it went? (red circle)

Here`s another random wire:crazy:(red circle)

This is the aldl port, no? It`s part of the other harness...

IF at all possible, I`d like to not use the factory fuseblock, or may not even a fuseblock at all, if I can figure out how to set it up like ryoken did.

Alright, so far here`s what I`ve got figured out:

EGR Solenoid
MAP Sensor
Idle Air Control Motor
Throttle Position Sensor
Fuel Pump Relay
Temp Sender
A/C plug (plugs in on front of a/c compressor)
ESC
Alternator
and the ECM plugs

With the exception of the alternator hookups, I`ve figured out this section of the harness:

Any idea what the other stuff is? I`ll take a look at a little more another time, but for now, that`s all I could figure out. Where this section of the harness plugs into the firewall, where does it all go after that? Just to the fuseblock? I have it all right here, but theres just so many wires there:crazy::crazy::crazy::crazy::o:o:o

I`m leaning more towards ditching the factory fuse block, and running a breaker setup like ryoken.

I can't view your pics, sorry. (work)

Just replace the fuse block if you've got the one that went to the harness. Don't try to make this easy on yourself, it will just make more work for you elsewhere. If you've got all the '89 wiring, match the wires up that are cut, and solder them back together. Install in truck. Done. There is no "easier" way to do it IMO, GM didn't put a bunch of junk in there, they put what is needed. Now if this is going to be a buggy or something where you want to mount stuff differently, I can see it, but not if you plan to run a semi-factory setup. If you can't simplify the injection wiring, why would you replace it? How is creating something from scratch any less difficult than swapping a complete harness? To create something from scratch, you would certainly need to understand how everything works and what it does before even trying. Then you need all new wiring, connectors, soldering, shrink tube everything, and so on.

Sounds like you found the ALDL?

Should have a "clear" connector off the ECM wiring near the ECM connectors, which goes to the drivers side of the truck for things like VSS input, 12V, etc.
