This one is a '91. Pretty nice; has some rot, but all is not lost. The worst of it is right where the tailgate bolts to the floor. Both sides need replaced. How much of a PITA is that?

Pics? Is it the pillars or the actual tailpan itself? If its the tailpan, I would just replace it with some 2x4 box tubing and never have to worry about it again. I did mine last summer and its holding up very well.

I'll post some pics next week. Is to Tailpan. I have not looked at the pillars closely yet and I don't really want to even open the gate is is difficult to close and realign as the hinge bolts on the left side have nothing to hold on to.

Sweaty, do you have pics of your repair?

I thought I did, but I don't. Basically what I did was replace the tailpan with 2x4 steel. I made some body mount plates, cut out a flat section where the hinges mount up, welded it to the side of the pillars, and made some angle brackets on the front of the "tailpan" and welded it to the frame so it wouldn't flex. It's solid.
