Woo! I'm excited. I hope the seller bites. He's got an old Warn-Bellview winch, asking $150. Says it works well and that it's been rewired to operate from a switch and relay instead of the push/pull cables. Comes with good cable. I offered $130 - it's about an hour's drive from here tho, which kinda bums me out a bit.

Hope you've got a smaller car to drive that distance. Good luck!

Pssst! Only an hour. Last friday I drove 800 miles round trip to pick up an axle from BP71K5 in one day. Amature.:D:doah:

My DD is a bicycle - I do about 100 miles per week, so fuel costs don't bother me much. truck gets about 10 to 20 miles per month, excluding wheeling. :) I'll take my wife's '64 Beetle tho - 35mpg... and 35mph! :haha: the guy lives at the top of a pass that the bug only is able to do about 40 to 45mph max! :haha:

Ever since moving to small town, I have NO patience for big city driving, parking-lot freeways, or commuting on the interstate. I do enjoy back-highway drives and forest service roads, but the less time I spend on I-5, the better! :waytogo:

Good luck with the winch... sounds like a good deal for a working winch!

About the city driving.... oh yeah... I am right there with you.

Got it for $140. Hoping to go pick it up tonite! It's basically an 8274 w/ out the power out option. :D

I'm STOKED!

I posted an offer on the back of my Business card to a somewhat homless mexican guy who lives on one of m customers properties to buy the exact winch but never heard back from him. Let us know how you like it as I may go offer again if you like yours.

I'm a sales rep so I do a lot of driving so usually don't mind it too much. I made the the trip to Brians house (360 miles) in 4.5 hours (highly illegal speeds were attained) but the way home on the I-5 was horrible with fridays easter traffic.

Well, just got back with the winch! I am almost giddy. Here's a pic of what I got for $140. Not sure exactly how much cable is on there - the guy guestimated about 100 feet. I'll pull the cable all out on Friday and measure. Still need to pick up a fairlead, snatch block and build some bumpers - but one more piece of the puzzle! :D

I suspect I'll like it just fine. This winch is almost exactly the same thing as an 8274, except that this winch does not have a power out. In all the research I've done on this style (I've considered offering on a few), they started out by Bellview and were said to be rated as 6000lb models. Then Warn bought them and within a short period of time they simply changed the rating on the tag to be 8000lbs. Then they modified it and called it the 8274 with the power out. IIRC, a motor from an 8274 can be put onto these winches with a little modification and is a cheaper way to replace a blown motor.

I need to do some more research and really learn the ins and outs of these things now, though, and get some definite info. For now, I'm just going to get this cleaned up and what not.

We have 2 vehicles: a near off-the-lot 64 Beetle and a highly modified 73 Blazer. Neither vehicle is particularly comfortable for extended drives. :doah: Now, if I had a modern vehicle with modern conveniences (like a stereo, comfortable seats, etc), I'd enjoy cruising the highway. ;)

Sweet grab on the winch! :D

I just spent six hours on the road today, 4 of them being I5, going to Sacramento and back for a pre-op doct's appt. Not much fun.

When you pull the cable out... be sure to wrap it back up properly. ie, not crossing over, etc.

If you can swing it... might want to look into replacing the cable (maybe with rope). Never know what has been done to the cable. But, when you pull it out, you can inspect it good.

I was wondering on the motor also. If you ever need to replace it.... might be able to with a little with a newer motor.

Looks like you got a good deal.

I am curious about that, so keep us updated. A friend of mine has that model, but so far I have chosen not to grab it because of the lack of power out.
