Just ordered up a welding cart

It was only $60.00 from Amazon. I had intended on making my own. I went over to a buddy's shop to see what he had fabbed up and he told me that Lowes had cheap ones that would cost less than purchasing the metal to build one. So off to Lowes I go. I get there and the lady says they quite carrying them in the store. She refers me to the website. I checked Home Depot, no luck there either.

So, I get home and check Lowes.com and find they are selling one that looks like a POS for $520. Yep, $520 for a cart that holds the welder and that's it. I do a search and find this one at Amazon for $60. It got good reviews and I figure that even if it isn't perfect, I can always beef it up for far less than I would pay to fab my own. If I have to reinforce, I can do that but it looks like it might fit the bill.

I used like 6 feet of half inch pipe and ten bucks in casters for mine. Works just fine, and its a welding project

right on man. I just about pulled the trigger on a similar cart. there are quite a few out there in the $50-$60 range.

I decided to go this route. I figure I need the practice on something that isn't going to get me killed if it falls apart.

friend has one just like the linked one or the same as far as i know. its cheep and floppy .

when you get it all assembled weld it all up at the joints and repaint it. will make it less floppy but still cheep.

good project is to build one and get practice at the same time.

but what ever makes you happy.

Not a bad cart but mine has to have big wheels. I like running **** over and those little wheels that most use just don't cut it

I would have preferred to build one but metal in this neck of the woods is absurdly overpriced. I could kick myself for tossing out bed frames over the years. Great source of angle iron and already painted. I will see how this one goes. I can beef it up if needed or just use it for a year or two and toss it for such a low price.

I should have just bought one. I ended up fabbing one up and went way overboard. Had a little bit of function following form. But, now I've got too much time and money in it to go back.

yup, when I ordered my new Miller, got a decent cart for $50 with it.. not worth my time some times to do that stuff... tho I will be building my own fab table hopefully soon...

I'm going to start off with a dolly, or hand truck, that was left behind at the building I work in. The movers stole something anyway, so I'm sure they wont be coming back for it. My welding cart will be made from it

Its nothin fancy but it gets my welder around my buddies shop. I dont have a pic with the bottle on it but it sits in the loop behind the welder and rests on the bottom rack, some wire holds it in nice and snug. I got to play with my welder and my pipe bender, and some pipe from work, expanded metal we found and bought 4 castors (which I need to get some bigger ones) and a piece of rebar cut to make a T and works to hold the leads and works as the handle. Roughly $10 into it

Here is mine (in progress) for my Miller 211. Making it was great practice setting up my machine. I will dig up a pic of the finished cart.

Why not just make one with your welder? Perfect first project with a new welder should be a welding cart IMHO.

The cost of the steel here is about three times the cost of the cart I ordered. I will see how strong it is and maybe beef it up. I am no expert welder by any stretch but it also isn't my first time to the dance. I need to get my welder into a convenient cart to make room in the garage so we will see how it goes with this purchased one. If it is cheesy, then some strengthening will be in order.

If I had scrap like that laying around here, I'd have to put up barb wire and a gun turret to keep the scavengers at bay. That would be over $200 in metal if I bought it locally.

Most of it was rusted stuff I found out in the woods on base. The rest was just scrap I had in the shed.

I would imagine there is a lot of scrap metal on a military facility. Just make sure none of it says "point towards enemy" before you pick it up......
