K10: Built HP60/241-205 Doubler/tons of tube

Yeah once I finish the back of the truck I'll set it up so I can put them on or pull them off. I cut the sides off of the bed before I scrapped everything, they're sitting on the side of the house waiting for me to finish. :D

That should look pretty sweet. Glad your working on this thing again

Well I haven't forgot about the k10 but I've had two major things going on lately. I started back at work after recovering from my ankle surgery which means more cash to chuck at the project but less time. I'll take it though, I'm glad to be back at work and into a regular routine again.

The second thing is we moved. We had lived at our old place since 1991 so needless to say we had a lot of stuff that had accumulated over the years. The new place has a 3 car garage and a nice covered area I can stuff the k10 in.
I've been spending a bunch of time getting it all setup.

As far as more parts go I ordered a poly trans mount and the "competition poly" engine mounts from DIY4X...

I should be ready to get working pretty quick here. The plan is to gut the axles that are under it right now and sell them as a matched set. Buy a 14 bolt and go get it and my HP60 geared and locked. I want to get the 60 under it, reverse high steer and brakes done so it's running and driving then work on getting the doubler in.

Well I'm finally able to get going on this. The garage is all setup and the electrician came today while I was at work and wired up a whole new 220 sub panel in the garage. It has a breaker and plug for the welder and a breaker with hardlines going to the compressor.

Next on the list is to pull the truck out front and start gutting a bunch of stuff. Axles, steering, some stuff under the hood, transfercase and driveshafts are on the chopping block.

Started stuff tonight. Got my sandblaster setup and picked up a new grinder. Plan is to get the axles out and once I pick up some argon I'll get started on welding up stuff on the 60 housing. Nothing too exciting yet, I'll post pics when there is something worth posting :)

Started working tonight. Out with the old!
I freakin' love this new compressor. It hardly kicks on just using the impact and when it does it fills from 100 back up to 135psi really fast.

I believe I have the same IR. I can run the impact for a damn long time before it kicks on. Running die grinders, and having it keep up is really nice.

I ran to the steel yard and picked up some material this morning and whipped up some tall jack stands for the truck. It's going to be up in the air for a while and I only have 2 semi-tall jack stands that are tied up under the front of the truck.

It's 2.5" x 2.5" x .250" wall seamless tubing for the main upright and 2" x 2" x .250" wall tube slipped inside of it. Uses a 3/4" grade 8 bolt as a pin that's long enough so the weight is on the shank. The lower gussets are 1" x 1" x .120" and the base plate is .250" thick.

I tossed some paint on them tonight so when they're dry tomorrow (and hopefully it stops raining) I'll get them under the back bumper and work on getting the 14 bolt yanked out.

The main 2.5" tube is 24" tall for perspective.

Thanks, I figured if I was going to be under it I didn't want to skimp.

The material and bolts were about $150. But if I go buy another 24" section of the 2.5" I have enough of everything else to make two more stands. So I could have 4 of them for about $175 or so. Cheaper than most I was looking at online by a long shot.

Started unbolting stuff out back and it started pouring rain on me. I tried to wait it out but eventually said forget it and just finished it in the rain.
Wouldn't ya' know it as soon as I drag the axle out from under the truck the clouds rolled out and the sun came out.*

Got the axle out, traction bar out, rear d-shaft out, shocks and the upper shock mounts off. I have some small stuff to do like engine mounts, changing the rubber trans mount for the poly mount I got and a couple more pieces of tube out back. During all that I'll get the axles geared up and the lockers installed so I can get it back on it's own feet again hopefully within the next couple weeks.

Come on up! We have a great group of guys that go wheelin' throughout the summer. Not sure when we'll get started or where we're headed but once the snow starts melting we'll plan our first trip.

I really need to move to So-Cal....

I'm not quite considered southern california.... we get some good weather though. You're more than welcome to come with us this summer too! I'm hoping to sucker colbystephens into coming with us once this year too. He and I have talked about it in the past and now that he's a little closer and has a wheeler again I'm hoping this is the year.
