K20 Motor Swap thread!

looks good Chris:waytogo: Is that an edlebrock fuel pump?? With the ord crossmeber is there a bit more room for the fuel pump?

Ok,....so I got the motor in the hole......Little did I know the ORD motor mounts have a top and bottom. Needless to say, I had one upside down. Didn't figure it out until the BBC was bolted to the trans and about to be set down into the mounts.

Here's the pics for today:

Anyway, I'm back at it tommorrow and want to thank the buddies from the squadron that came out to help me.

Belts, pulleys, fuel lines, hoses, random fittings and a little luck and I'll hear noise tommorrow.

Oh, 1 bad thing, my passenger side header, the collector specifically, has the problem that it hits the lower shackle bolt. I know there is another post that currently is discussing this but if, anyone has had this problem and has "modified" their headers and has some insight, I would love to hear about it.

More pics will come tommorrow, and , if things go well, I'll post a video with the initial firing audio.

i had that issue one time. all i did was once it was up and running and warmed up, i used a 2x4 to bend the exhaust over almost an inch. never had any other issues.

by the way, nice lookin truck

:mad:OK, so things NEVER go as planned as everyone here knows. Almost everything is installed and I've had some problems. I'll try to go through each Pic and try to explain.

Here we go:
This is the 1st problem I ran into. Upon install of the headers, the passenger side hits the lower shackle bolt. I discussed this a little earlier and reposted in the Hedman Header post (I think.?/) Thanks Smalltown cowboy for the info. I am going to try that.....But I don't have exhaust on it yet. I think I'll try to call Hedman for some guidance. I really want to run this set (69820's), but:
1. :(I'm afraid I'll mess them up in the process of bending them and...
2. :(I'll end up having to buy or replace that side and...
3. :mad:I'll have to buy a whole new set.

2nd problem, the March Pulley Kit, which I think is one of the coolest mod's I've got on this motor, has an Alternator bolt that is too long.....Small beans, I'm not that concerned on that one as you will see below.

Which end up being mich better than this:

I still have yet to hear it run, but I still need belts and apparently I overlooked the fact I have a keyway power steering pump instead of the press fit I ordered. Again, small beans, Summit has already said they will work that out for me.

here's what It looks like so far with as much installed as I could:

I'd add more but that's all this post will let me add.

As I finish the project this week, I'll add more.

looking at your header pic, you might just pull that side out again, and turn your shackle bolt around. put the head of the bolt on that side, might give you the clearance you need.

My suggestion as well...

or if you cant get a longer shackle, for both sides...

Oh and like someone suggested... If yourun that thing at 2500 rpm's for 20 minutes, not moving... (not driving) those headers will flex a bit with a 2x4...

Can't....grease fitting is on the other side. I've already talked to Hedman, and the tech guy agrees, there is no reason (after reviewing my part # and all the notes) that this should be happening. He apparently is going to check all their tooling and jigs for making these headers and see if there is a problem. He's also going to break open another set and send me that side. If there's still a fit problem and Hedman can't or won't do anything, then I'll try the 2 x 4 approach.

The power steering pulley is already on it's way back to Summit with the keyway pulley on it's way here. This part is only an inconvienience. I've driven the truck before without power steering.

For now, the P/S issue gives me a chance to clean up the pump more and replace the case it's in.

Thanks for the input! I'll be keepin' y'all posted!:D

No, I still have the same set. The exhaust shop that did the header pipes and the crossover pipe bent the headers a little and then I ended up cutting the lower bolt flush with the nut. They clear, but not by much.

Overall, I'm happy with them. And the motor,.....It makes ALOT of torque. One thing i did was stay with 2 1/2 in pipes instead of going with the 3" pipes I would have liked. I'll end up switching to 3" and changing headers to Doug's tri-y's, but not for a while.

I have yet to abuse this very much, but @ half pedal, I keep up with my neighbors 2002 Silverado with the 5.3 and his pedal to the floor!!!:D

your truck kinda reminds me of Muddin Manny's... :haha:

how about a video of it running?
