My dad's 03 2500HD, 4wd , extended cab short bed has always gotten 14-15mpg on the highway since it was new. It just turned over 302,000 this weekend, he replaces plugs with whatever GM recommends every 100k and other then normal maintence the engine is untouched. It is a auto (4l80e, maybe
) and has 4.10's with the stock tire size. Towing , mpg generally drops to around 10-12.

I would rather pay for gas though than reparing a powerstroke
Luckly it's way comfy and it's not my DD.
First turn out of the dealership I pitched it sideways, then on the way home I flew through a intersection spinning the tires. Within 3000 miles I had the rear bumper barried under the sand, I lifted the front end off a whoop de doo and bottomed out the suspension all the way up and down.
17 is pretty good for that, and I was kinda implying highway mpg's...
Just want to be clear here.
