My stock '83 K5 has a vibration at 50+ I'm trying to figure out. I think my U-joint angles are right and no slop in them. I did notice when I bought it the rear pinion nut was loose. Can I remove the rear driveshaft, put a bag over the tailshaft and test drive it in 4WH?

Possibly.

If the yoke slips into the transmission because it’s and automatic, you will dump all the fluid out. What transmission?

83 ought to have a 208 and if he covers the output shaft it will at least capture the fluid and not let all of it spill out. I prefer a plastic cup instead of a bag but we have used latex gloves before.

Sorry, yeah it's a 700r4. I don't know my transfer cases, whatever is stock, I know it has ATF in it. I was planning to zip tie a baggie over it but a latex glove is a better idea.

A bottled water bottle cut in half is just about the same diameter as the slip yoke. Slip it inside the seal and duct tape it secure. More work, but a bit more substantial than the latex glove.

I remember using a prescription bottle that was the right size as a cap when I broke the rear shaft in my 81 Scottsdale.
The little tabs on the bottle help keep it in please.
Got me home.
