OK, this may not be a big hit, but what is everyones obsession with the Blazer over the other GM vehicles? I ask only because I don't know. What makes the Blazer better than the others? What is the difference in wheelbase over the SWB? The drivetrain is obviously not the big attraction. I hope this will not start a riot, but I ask only for my own knowledge. TIA

I think it's more of what you have you prefer, I have had my k5 for 4 years since I first turned 16, I built a 77 k20 last year. Ended up selling it because I prefer the K5.

Personnaly its a nice blend between and "suv" and a truck, large enough to fit a decent amount of people in and be comfy, while still having the characterstics of a truck.

And the top comes off....thats just bad ass. haha

i have always been into them because they are classic american iron. the body lines are timeless, and potential for modifications is endless. there is something cool about wheeling a full-size rig. in my opinion, jeeps are chick vehicles, and not something i see as "tough." a big, steel soldier, heavy chevy, however, is a workhorse brute. not to mention you can tow, and have a pick-up bed to boot.

Have you driven one and spent a good weekend on the trail in one? People are giving you good examples of "WHY a Blazer" and your not excepting them.

What do you want to here, "they give great head over others"?

K5

Well, in California it's illegal to have passangers in the bed of a pick up, unless you have seats, seat belts and a camper. Pretty much like a Blazer or Jimmy has. For me it's about the room without being exposed to the elements. Plus if I have a case of beer on the back, it won't get stolen that easily. :haha:

I have mine because every idiot that has a Jeep thinks it's a big bad off-road machine.

Parts are cheap and easy to come by. Huge aftermarket support. Top comes off. Actually able to pull a trailer with it (ever try to pull a car hauler with a Jeep?) Good size wheel base/width for the wheeling I do. Actually have room on the inside for more than 2 people.

Out of all the vehilces I own (3 Camaros, K20, S10 Blazer, Grand Cherokee, Cbr1000) the K5 is my favorite to drive. Well...the Cbr1000 is my summer DD, but any other time it's the K5.

Only thing I don't like about it is when someone calls it a Bronco. :doah:

Yea the back seat is a big deal to me... Plus like has already been said... There is just something to be said about wheelin a fullsize rig. And you are pretty limited to choices if you want to wheel a full size short wheel base rig that has a back seat.. The fact that its not a Jeep is nice too. and the biggest reason of all like Kirsl Said. "why not?"

Same reason I built a burb. Just cuz!! Naw I loved my K5 because there was enough room for 5-6 people and the top came off. It's big but short at the same time. The proportions of a K5 are what's sexy. I loved my '76 and wish I still had it. The Burb was my Dad's thats why I built it instead of another K5.(Plus the fact that I can fold down the back seat and fit a fullsize mattress back there:D)

K5s have that certain style, same as why Bronco owners prefer theirs. I also have a longbed, and there is just no comparison between a open vehicle and one with a cab- apples and oranges. And all the reasons mentioned in prior posts.

Have wanted one for over 25 years, and snatched mine up as soon as I saw it in the paper.

K5ers must be on to something- Sports Truckers have been hacking thier tops for years now.

yeah and the price too :wink1: out here the pick up trucks are crazy priced. for a beat up rusty 4x4 pick up people want 1500-2000. you can usually get a decent shape k5 for 1500 or less.

I've had mine for 23 yrs. It was just the funniest and coolest 4wd i've had, and i've had alot in 27 yrs.
I'm just glade i still have it.:D
Just cann't wait to finish the rebuild and get to drive it again.

simple more passenger space. I am going to assume you have no kids?

I have one and currently wheel a pickup, kind of hard to pack all three in there.

Plus topless is a very valid reason. Women come in all shapes and sizes, topless blazers only come in 3, all of them cool. The reason I am going to restore my 73 instead of building a tow rig. Its more fun

Well back then, if you wanted a covered back seat you had to go crew cab or suburban. The K5 is big enough as it is...great size for people that like to bring family, friends, camping supplies and/or plenty of spare gear without driving a cruise liner.

No kids for me. I'll go with the added passenger space and the ability to go topless. I just thought there was more to it than that. Like people thought they wheeled better. Maybe weight distribution? Just for the record, I'm not a Heep owner, and my questions where never about comparing them to a Blazer.

definitely better weight distribution with the k5 and for myself I wanted EFI and always remembered the few k5's I've seen growing up and just how bad ass they really are.
