K5 on an Auto Transport Dolly question

This is my truck on a uhaul trailer with 31x10.50's it barely squeezed on. I was afraid the sidewall was going to rip apart.

Thankfully I only had to move it 5 mins up the road with a max speed of 30.

That setup would scare the hell out of me on the highway :eek1:

Can't even imagine how much that trailer would whip...

I know and agree it was a little scary but it didn't have to go far at all. 5 mins up the road 30mph, It tracked just fine at that speed and I didn't want to push it any harder.

I posted it in this thread for people to get a feel for it. I think a k5 would be much better on one of those trailers. It's scary to me u haul actually recommends it with a 2500 or 3500 tow vehicle.

When I pcs from Cali to pa I used the uhaul tow trailer with 35x12.5r15 on it. I drove over the fenders on the trailer and used the tire tie Downs around The axles instead of Tires And added 3 14000 lbs straps front and back to tie Down to the frame on the trailer. Made it but didn't drive over 60 mph the whole Way. I had my mom as a chase car in case something started to move on the trailer. Had no problems all the way. Checked the straps every time I stopped fuel. Never moved. Only problem was the blazer crushed the side bars on the trailer since it had to sit On top of them. Just used a pry bar and bent them back into place when I took it back. Wasn't ideal but it worked.

Too much weight behind the axles vs the front causes the trailer to become "nose light". This causes funny handling or worse (I forget the actual term) it can start to "whip" back and forth on the highway. This will cause your anus to pucker up and grip the seat so tight it will render the seatbelts useless. It will also pull your truck right out of the lane you are driving in possibly hitting other cars or spinning the whole truck out if you can't get it under control.

I speak from experience on this one. Had to load a 60something Olds on my trailer backwards once. Rear bumper of the car was hanging over the front of the trailer almost to the point of if I turned too tight it would hit the tailgate of my pick up. Thought i had enough weight up front. Got on the highway and at 55 it started whipping back and forth. Lucky for me I got it under control and it only pulled me into the breakdown lane. I think that seat had a permanent balloon knot mark in it after that. Luckily they didn't notice when I traded it in.

Where are you moving from/to? Are you doing a DITY move, so you'll be getting the box truck anyway? I used uship to move my k5 from NC to CA. Was doing too much family visiting and sight seeing to mess with hauling it at the time. Just an option. It cost me ~$1100 in 2006. Sounds like a lot until you start figuring up the cost of fuel and the lack of milage in a box truck.

X2 on USHIP. Put my haul on the auction block to have my K5 brought from Pueblo CO to Myrtle Beach and got pretty fair bids considering it wasnt a runner and had to be winched on the trailer. USHIP was the way to go for me once I started to figure what it would cost to u-haul it back (never would have fit on the trailer anyways) plus box truck, trailer, mileage, gas, seat time, time off work etc..

PM me if you are thinking about shipping it, I just went through this and can save you alot of headaches on the process

Just so I can clear on up one thing... The K5 wheelbase is shorter than that... Correct?

I want to say the trucks are 121 and the blazer is 112 inches? Let me look through my notes real fast.

sooner or later you end up at this. had room for my gun safe, ammo, guns, spare parts, dog kennel, bunch of the wife's crap....
