K5 Stereo Installation

I could make more grilles, but I'm not sure what the cost would be. I can think about what it would take. I'd probably have to make new tooling. I made my tooling from very soft material as I was just making one set of grilles. Needless to say, it's already pretty well shot. Also, I'm only registered as a "member", not a "vendor". I'm not sure if I have permission to be selling my wares on this forum. I don't want to ruffle any feathers.

I would think it should be fine. It's not like you're marketing them. And it's definitiely not as if you're stealing any other vendors' thunder. As far as I know, nobody makes these.

That's for sure. You can bet that if someone else was making them I'd have bought them. It would have saved me a ton of work.

My head unit is a Kenwood 7" motorized touch screen (KVT 514 ) with navigation and all the silly bells and whistles and I love it. However, it obscures my access to my heater controls. I have to retract it to access them. I tried to talk myself into not minding that, but it's driving me crazy. I'm thinking of moving the stereo to where the heater controlls are and vice versa. I know it's going to be a lot of work to make it look just right, but I don't mind that. Any ideas?

To keep it clean....in center console somewhere? I did that a LONG time ago with my, new at the time, Denon CD player. Removable! :waytogo: So, that was in the early 90's.

Not a bad idea, but it needs to be in the dash. I use its navigation system a lot, and the closer it is to the windshield, the better. I don't want to have to divert my gaze any more than I have to while driving. Thanks for the input, though. I have the dash bezel off as we speak, and the area currently occupied by the heater controlls is pretty narrow. I'd have to pull something pretty fancy out of my a$$ to make this idea work.

Yea, but mine was in a generation that I didn't really need to see the screen. I did the volume, track changes, etc by feel. I definitely would be tough to look down there while driving.....I'm sure you'll come up with something good! :waytogo:

Perhaps a larger deck with a 1.5 din spacing (without a flip up screen?) :dunno:

Does that head unit have an output to drive an external display?

Maybe you could put a 2nd display up on top of the dash, or in the sunvisor, or as a swingdown attachment from the upper rollcage bar?

Not simple, but neither is reworking the entire dash/hvac system for the current deck.

no external display provisions. Good idea, though.

Soundstream has a line of single DIN head units with a large double DIN size screen hangs below the insalled body. Check out the VR-732.

Truthfully, if i was going to change the head unit location, i'd put it in the middle of the dash.

Done correctly, they look awesome. And you can shift the HVAC vent over.

It will block the AC vent then. Nice work.
