Kalifornia diesel conversion rules?

[ QUOTE ]
Well I spent 10 minutes today talking to CARB..... they were actually pleasant to speak to and they said...

1) you can install any same or later year diesel you like ... it must have it smog equipment installed... in the case of the mechanical cummins that isnt much... probably and evap on the tank
2) schedule a trip to a refereee who confirms the above and then you get to change it to diesel at DMV...

looking better all the time...
now...
where can I get that cummins at a reasonable price....!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

I seen some on ebay in CA. They were wrecked 1st gen trucks, try there.

I ebay everyday.... most of the motors are too far away... I can get them here just didnt want to pay 4-5k for a good one... dont we all want it cheap....
anyway... Im still trying to figure out which is the best way to go on the adapter thing....

who said the th400 3.9 adapter "tilts" the 5.9 engine in the chassis???? have you actually seen one?... and how bad is it... because these adapters are available... and cheaper than cummins by a bunch...

how about a 727 with a 205chev AA... adapter? anyone see any problems with this setup?

Im slowly getting my nerve up... each time I buy gas for the 454
cam

smog

seeing as how it already had a 6.2 in it, i would do your new diesel swap and not tell anybody with authority that anything changed. Whenever my 6.2 gives out i'm doin a big block swap.

With the price of diesel lately (just paid $2.49/gal) dropping in a big block aint a bad idear.

You guys had me scared for a minute as I read down the threads. I somewhat recently swapped out a 8.1 in a 2500hd for a 03' Duramax and converted it to 4wd at the same time. I havent had the "its time for a smog" letter yet from DMV nor have I got around to taking it to the REF. I have done swaps before and had them all Ref certified and never had a problem(put a throttle body 350 in a jeep cj-7 back in 1989(big deal back then!)' put a 1993 tbi 454 and 4L80e in a 1985 cab in chasis 4wd, put a 8.2L crate motor in a 95 chevy back in 1997 and put a 99' Vortec 350 4L60e and np 241in a TJ in 1999') but the gas to diesel thing was new and you guys had me thinkin that the regs on that were somethin different WHEW!!!

true, but diesel hasn't been all that friendly in the last year either. I'm paying 2.38gal @ the cheapest place in town.
