My crew cab is getting crossover/highsteer and hydro assist. I was looking through pics of how people have it set up and mounted. Seams most mount the ram to the top of the springs. While this dont seam that bad I still dont realy like the idea of it. so I was brain storming and came up with this. why not build a mount that ties the inner sprong plate bolts on the pass side and a ring under the diff cover and a ring under the pinion seal housing. I even made a rough drawing. Note that I would probably lay the tie rod in front of the cylender. I drew it this way just to show the idea.

I figure you would be best to ask if this would work, or point out any drawbacks to this. And if you could build it.

Also worth mentioning is I have about 9-10" of lift, a custom engine cross member and will be moveing the front alxe 3-4" forward. Im useing JKW's high steer crossover arms.

I've done something similar to that already. Didn't tie it into the sping plate on the pass side though.

I believe it was 3/8" thick ring and ears and pretty much setup the way you have it drawn. Far as I know its working.

Person I did it for is/was on here.

How about mounting the ram to an arm on the knuckle instead of the tie rod?

That way you would have an even direct assist on both knuckes. The ram on the driver arm, and the steering box (ram) on the passenger. No tie rod to mess with, or tie rod mount to slip, bend, or fail.....

Kert made me that bracket and it works great with the dampner on there. I am going to install Hydro on it soon too. here are some pix

So you have to take the ram off to get into the diff? I guess you dont need to get into the diff too often, but when you do it looks to be more of a pain.

if you consider 1 bolt more that 10 bolts a pain. I have had it off a few times and it was not a hassle at all. I am sure it was kinda a prototype and the only thing i would change is to move it the ram mounting point back a quarter inch. (FYI Kert)

Looks to be about perfect. I would rather it tied into the spring plate though just seams the more you attach it to the stronger its gunna be.

Kert could you add that as an option to a razor back diff cover? At least just one time for me. I dont know who else would be interested in it, so I wouldnt say make it available on all of them.

PM me with your thoughts/details.

Thanks a million

The bad thing about doing it this way is the pressure/stress to turn the opposing tire is first transmitted thru the first knuckle/joints etc. Seems it would be easier to bend a tierod using this mouting method- that or crack a knuckle.

Huh? Wouldnt you get the same assist at each knuckle?

If I understand you correctly your sayin to use 2 rams, one per knuckle and eleiminate the tie rod.

I dont think the timing would be the same, meaning for example the pass side would get to full lock B4 the driverside. and that would be more like full hydro.

No. Just dont hook the ram to the tierod. Like this, only you would need a double arm for hysteer.

See, Im saying the steering box is a ram itself pushing 1 knuckle while the new ram would push the other.
