Well last summer Stephen (ORD) and I applied for the King of the Hammers race in Johnson Valley Ca. As luck would have it we didn't make the race entry list but we were selected to run the LCQ if we desired. They have allowed 11 spots in the race for those that place high enough in the LCQ. There will most likely be more spots open up for LCQ qualifiers as people can't make the race for whatever reason.
We are hoping to see 35 to 40 vehicles racing the LCQ with 15 or so spots to be claimed in the race.
Since my buggy is the lighter more nimble and closest to race ready of the vehicles in the stable it got the nod.
Most of what we are doing is maintenance and upkeep that I usually try to do at the start of the summer wheeling season, Change all fluids, check chassis for cracks or potential failures of a system or part, replace and rebuild as needed.
Then we have all of the safety stuff, window nets, new 5 points as mine are out dated, rear facing amber light, better fire extinguisher mounting, some fuel cell shut off valves added, electrical system kill switch and a few more small items.
With the length of the race somewhere near 100 miles with a good part of that being higher speed desert stuff with some big Whoops sections we are trying to focus our attention to shock and suspension tuning. All four shocks are getting rebuilt, re valved and cleaned up as well as re building and re valving the air bumps. We are lucky enough to be getting some setup advice and help from King shocks.
Well on with the pics as the details about the work get boring.
Right Front upper shock mount, shock protector bar (yes I have almost taken out shocks by hitting the top of the shock under a rock ledge) air bump mount and Baja Designs HID light
.

Right front shot of air bump, coilover behind it, limit strap and general greasy mess around the king pin, and tie rod ends. The steering ram is also bent for some odd reason. Nobody knows how, when or where it happened

Rear brake line drops, dual exhaust pipes and the back of the fuel cell.

Rear quartering shot showing the added spare tire in its home for the race. All tools store below the tire. the sides have been removed for easier access and new skins will be built for the Race.
So far we have Offroad Design (Major sponsor), Colorado K5 (thanks Steve) and Mrk5 (stickers) lined up as sponsors. With more to come.
