Knixon804 submitted a new Build:

knixon804 k5 blazer one ton and ls swap

hey guys here is an accelerated version of the past to the present.
My buddy bought this clean blazer last year and brought it to my house for a one ton swap. the swap was 14b/60 combo with open front and spool rear, 4.10 gears. while doing the swap i was standing underneath the rig admiring how clean it was for a michigan k5. i wanted it but the time wasn't right so i finished the swap and lead him on his way.

first wheeling trip when he got it

one ton swap day.

well this fall he sank it on drummond island and hurt the motor. so i had the opportunity to buy it. so i did!
mods are as follows
dana 60 front, open carrier
14 bolt rear, full spool
4.10 gears
2wd steering box with ORD cross over
37" nitto ridge grapplers
17" KMC beadlocks
custom front bumper with smittybilt 12k winch
305/700r4/208
heres some pics of it over the last year

Thanks man. I'm from Kalkaska (about 30 mins east of traverse city)

Good deal man, I'm watching this thread! My 1990 has a brand new 700R4, and a tired 350. I've been considering a similar swap with a DBC LS and keeping the 700R4, but I haven't seen it done much. I'm curious to see if you can keep the trans / transfer case in the stock location.

Great looking K5!

Is that winch mount something custom or was it purchased? It looks like a really good design!

I'll let you know shortly. I'm trying to do the swap in one weekend

My Tv cable showed up today. any pointers on this retro fit

Got the same kit on mine. Be sure to follow the instructions as they are very complete. The install of the included tv valve spring in the valve body is critical. The cable adjustment once installed is a little tricky, as my initial adjustment while feeling tight, was not tight enough. Trans wouldn't upshift. My tech adjusted it up and got it shifting. I'm tempted to hook up a gauge to the pressure tap on the trans though to see if I need to go just a little more or confirm if the adjustment is correct.

OK thanks. I have a set of pressure gauges from Bow tie over drives that my buddy has. I will them for adjustment

Next on the list is electric fans.. I was thinking of buying ford windstar ones and fabbing a bracket. any other options?

Windstar fans are the best option really. I have some e-fans from a LT1 Camaro. They work, and aren't much different, but the Windstar fans fit the radiator a lot better. They cover a lot more surface area overall.

Ok guys plans have changed. i scored a 6.0 LQ9/4l65e combo out of a 06 escalade for cheap! so im picking it up friday and using that as a drivetrain and using the 5.3 on a customers c10 build.
i will be tearing the heads off it to inspect the top end so ill be throwing a cam and some valve springs in it. any suggestions on cam? i was thinking BTR stage 3 truck cam or vinci performance chopper cam with a 112 LSA.

specs are on the vinci cam

DUR @ .004" 272*/280*
DUR @ .050" 210*/218*
LIFT .551 / .551
LSA 112*
2A

BTR stage 3 truck cam
218/224 .553/.553 113+3

also my wiring harness from came. very nice products

Ended up ordering the brian tooley stage 3 truck cam.
Today consisted of tear down of the old drive train. i got it all removed and now its time to clean up the engine bay. is there any way to tell what wires do what? i am good at ls swaps but not well versed in square body factory wiring. is there a diagram to follow for factory wiring?

Get a factory Wiring manual. Worth it's weight in gold. You'll know what you can flush and what needs to stay.

Oh, power wash and paint that engine compartment while you are there! It's totally worth it when the swap is done.

Which Schoenfeld headers are those? The ones that i know fit had the O2 sensor port pointing into the front shackle not straight up like the one pictured
