L.E.D bulb test & review thread UPDATE : EBAY cheepy headlights to j.w. speaker headlights

"this one seems to work fine... turn signals flash fine..."

You tested the side marker LEDs with turn signal and the headlights on? You should see the problem then.

just checked mine .

zevo front in the grill = park and turn . turn on = park still lit .

to test i just pulled the 4 way was all .

the side fender markers do require non-polarity bulb yes cause there 2 wire and marker only does power 1 way and turn pulls power off the other side . so a polarity sensitive unit will only work 1/2 the time on 1 side or the other .

the front grill area's big bulb are 1157 series 2 element so there good to go .

ill check again but when I did that... no headlights were not on but marker lights yes (so pulled headlight switch out once not fully for headlights too)...
and I took those pics with just the marker lights on.. then I went and put turn signals on and they worked too..

so did I get lucky with these bulbs??
fwiw.. there were 10 in the pack and I only needed 2 LOL for $~8

If you pull the bulb out and flip it around, and it doesnt work, you know you didnt get lucky. Pretty easy test. The ones that work properly wont care which way they are inserted.

side fender markers up front is you use a polarity sensitive bulb you dont get marker 1 way or turn marker the other way flipped in the socket .

gm wired it to pull power on 1 wire one way . then when lights on and turn signal it pulls power off the other wire . this is why you need a non-polarity sensitive bulb like i had linked after i found this all out my self .

so your saying... they will work with lights on but not off? im just trying to understand when they dont work. gonna check soon... icing back. threw it out

damn your right.. only works with lights on.. crud. i couldnt find the ones you posted on amazon... oh well.. ill have to buy those exact ones..

need help here...

1st one is little so i get it...

2nd is 1157r which is top bulb right? it works with hazzards but not with turn signals...

3rd one is reverse light?

i put 1157a in and wow works great and super bright. had 1 in and was dull.. other bright so i spun it and it got really bright...

3rd is little side marker bulb . reverse would be a 1156 bulb .

clean and check sockets and maybe flex the tabs a bit were the bulb pins hit as the sockets are old and little worn out . if i recall i had to do this with 1 or 2 of mine with a hook tool behind and carefully flex it to make it strech up/out a bit for better contact .do NOT get crazy you can pop the metal tab out and be screwed .

1st one is the reverse bulb i used in the stock reverse area . just did 2 more today on my buddys blazer i am building for him . 1st pic no lens on vehicle . 2nd pic dull lenses on vehicle. mid day sun starting to blast my shop .

was weird.. kept putting oem bulb in and worked... put this in and no go. maybe tmorrow ill do again. im beveragin it now...

so dummy q... little side bulb. when does that light? both sides dont seem to be lighting.

Tail light on .

Did you try flipping them ?

ok I had a bad wire. im going to go back to the junkyard next weekend and buy an entire harness.. $25.. its the newer style. square 2x2 weather sealed plug. my current rubber one is all fubarred up...
but now that I have working lights..

the red 1157R works on hazards BUT not on turn signals. Tried flipping it but it wont go in. should it go in either way? one way is duller (and hazards work) the other way when I plug it in.. gets really bright but wont push and turn...

thx for your thoughts..
fyi.. the white led I bought, are nice and bright.. different than what you listed... my side marker (red) is working now too.. which is the one you recommended!

ahh i forgot to ask @RootBreaker what kind of flasher ?

i have a solid state unit in mine . if your still running original aluminum little guy then maybe that's to small a draw to flash it . and if i recall there is 4 way flasher and reg flasher under the dash . 1 on fuse box and other by gas pedal atleast on the 80's vehicles .

Sorry, I didn't see you ask on my other thread. Oddly, I went back into my ebay history so I could find the exact piece I ordered, but it's not there.

This link should show the search results for the adjustable flashers, buy it now only, from low to high: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=adjustable+flasher&_sacat=0&_sop=15&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1

The first result (orange flasher) is what I have, I'm certain.

For the 1157's, it appears "COB" is the key word https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=1157+led+red+cob&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_sop=15&_osacat=0&_odkw=1157+led+red

That is the style I like for the dome lights as well. Some reading on COB https://www.digikey.com/en/articles/techzone/2016/aug/the-basics-of-chip-on-board-cob-leds

I note where it says "...the highest potential of the LED chips can be obtained.", in my experience that seems to be true over the "traditional" LED setup, where they use many individual LED's, and what appears to be multiple points of light, instead of a single, solid output.
