L18 8.1L swap resource thread

Yes, please do a side by side comparison of the old school flywheels and the 8.1. I am curious as well and I think I tossed an over-machined 8.1 flywheel before comparing it to a tbi 5.7L flywheel before I hauled it off to scrap

That cab and chassis does look too nice to part out. That would make a great rollback wrecker but, we can’t save them all. Rip it apart!:waytogo:
I would make the bed into a flatbed trailer

i use to drive a 5500 with duramax / allison rollback 21ft bed if i recall . the twin truck at the shop was a 8.1 / allison . they just work . when the boss sold the 09 with 8.1 it was still going at 300,000 + miles and has now moved on to the 2nd or 3rd owner . seen it move a few times on fb market place .

Prices run from $750 for an oil burner to $4000 for people high on crack. Budgeting $1500 for a running engine.

I couldn't find one around here, and I had been half ass looking for several years. That's why I simply bought a whole truck.

OK, I was finally able to break free for a minute and take some measurements. The measurement at the AC compressor pulley is 5-1/8”
The same measurement at the crank pulley is 4-5/16”
A difference or 13/16” or 0.8125
The difference between the Silverado series(smaller) and the GMT400 series(or larger)

I found an 8.1 in a 2002 Express van that a guy is pulling this weekend with 190k on it. $1100 complete so hopefully this works out.
I have an Express van one. The brackets are great, its really the best version for a squarebody swap. Just got my harness from Howell today. Cant wait to get an 8.1 in my crew cab.

Yeah, took about a month for my harness. They forgot my O2 sensors, have to call tomorrow and see if they shipped separately. Real nice looking harness and its well labeled.

Are you running one of their PCM's too? If so, I'm interested to see how that works for you after all the issues I had with their tune.
