L18 8.1L swap resource thread

I know the system "should" hold pressure for a length of time... But on the flip side, I've seen many many vehicles drop pressure off literally several seconds after the pump shuts off and they still start/run just fine.

My L29 drops pressure as soon as the pump shuts off down to zero.
It starts fine in the morning but after running it's hard to start.
I had changed the pump, and the filter and nothing changed.
I recently changed the regulator and it still takes time to start but It will not choke if I floor it anymore.
I need to put a pressure gauge on it to see if it still bleeds out.

Splitting hairs for sure, but if the pressure is bleeding off but not draining the fuel back to the tank it will start pretty easily. It’s impossible to see it other than if it takes multiple attempts to start or cycling the key 3-4 times to finally get enough fuel in the line and pressurized to allow the injectors to work.

But by the book there is a certain amount of time pressure should be held in the system key off. I’d have to go look it up but I know dropping to zero almost immediately is no bueno. Even if it starts easy after sitting it is still bleeding pressure off and my bet a dirty injector or two.
 
Iirc it is longer than a minute. Only allowed to loose @5-15 in that minute.

Not always the pumps fualt, could be an injector/s
I did consider the injector leaking possibility and I still am looking into it, but I will check the pressure now first since I changed the regulator and can see a difference
 
Can one of you show me a picture of the fuel pressure regulator?
The reason I ask, is, the one on my fuel rail does not look to be serviceable, as in you cannot remove it. It is permanently part of the fuel rail, not removable.
 
Technically it's an inside snap ring. I had that situation for a while where multiple primes were needed for a good start. When I replaced the fuel pump, it then behaved normally, so there is some kind of check valve in there. That's a friendlier scenario than gas dripping into the intake tract while the engine is off. I suppose it would generally happen with a hot engine and the gas would evaporate out to the intake or exhaust, but there's still some potential to put gas in the oil.
 
It really wouldn’t surprise me if it was indeed bad, I haven’t check the pressure, nor when it’s there and when it’s not. I will soon. I should probably just replace it anyway, as it’s original to the engine that threw the rod out the bottom. Which means I have no idea about its age nor condition. Plus, the fuel pump in the tank is brand new, with less than 10 starts on it, and under 30 minutes of run time.
But, the way parts go anymore, who knows?….
