Largest tires you'd tow with

Now I don't need tall tires for anything other than ground clearance in the mountains where I live. My plan was to run a 37" E rated 10 ply tire, just in case I need to tow something with the truck. My intention is to keep the truck as low as possible with good clearance. So what do you guys think is the largest tire for good towing manners?

I have not had good luck with drop hitches, the ones I have used shake and make the trailer fishtail. I hate that nonsense. The rear bumper of my truck will be pretty high up and angled for a decent departure angle while playing. Have you folks found a way to drop down without the shake and wobble?

shake and wobble have zero to do with a drop hitch and everything to do with a good trailer loaded correctly. I tow my junk with a 4 inch lifted Dodge 2500HD short bed on 37s. This is the drop hitch I use. My trailer is an 18 ft flatbed on 7k axles. I've also towd my buddies 20 ft flatbed 12k and his 40ft enclosed toy hauler both loaded to the top with zero issues.

I’d prob set the max at 37 for any normal rig.. I’ve towed with 35s more times than I can think.. but the larger the tire the more the brake has to work.. on some trucks with subpar brakes it’s baaadd.. you won’t have this prob with those 450 axles..

bigger tires = more braking to stop / more power to get rolling / more power to keep rolling .

but if you build your rig correctly it can be done . as in if bigger tires do a gear swap to make up for them and also go a hair bit more to get extra working power .

It all depends on the tire. I was gonna say 37s too but that's not true as if all goes together exactly how I want it I'll be running a 38" tall tire on my crew cab. Which I plan to tow with.

my plow machine build will also be setup for trailer duty .

5.13 gears / 35" tires / 454 & efi with 4l80-e to make up for deep gear at highway speed.

stock 454/th400/4.10/31.5" tire @ 70mph = 3230
my combo @ 70mph = 2580
