late 70s equipment ?

Hey guys a buddy just called me his neighbor is selling a 3/4 ton diesel truck, not sure what year. Pretty sure its an auto, what trans would it be. The truck is 150 miles from me and my buddy is true blue Ford I don't really trust him to id a chevy trans. Says its a 203 case, would the trans be a 400 or did diesels come with 350s?

Well, if it's a 3/4, it should be a TH400.

HOWEVER, a diesel that early could be the Olds 350 diesel and NOT a 6.2L ... which is odd, 'cuz those only came in 1/2 tons. The 6.2 didn't start until, hmm, '82 IIRC.

Really would be be best to get the VIN.

They had the BOP bell pattern on that motor , right ? A 455 could slide in front of that tranny
