Sooo.. my saga continues, I fixed the issue with the headgasket swap. I also installed some shorty headers because my manifolds were warped.

the truck runs fine until you give it more than 25% throttle then it lays down hard.. doesnt ping or backfire or anything more than just nooo power at all, I barely made it into the parking lot. Had it towed home, it did get progressively worse as I drove it. I have error code 42 or 43 Ill have to double check.

Im thinking either low Fuel pressure or bad ground to ESC??? win aldl doesnt show anything weird besides the code and blm into the 130-140s.. Rich flag at idle sometimes.

Was your timing on initially, and was the distributor clamped down tight? Didn't even check the codes, but if you messed with distributor doing what you did, that's an easy check.

Plug wires in correct order? Plug wire(s) not burned?

Timing is good double checked. Played with it and I'm almost certain it's fuel related. It won't even rev out on its own but it will when I spray carb spray when it's wot. Timing is not being pulled when it's revving it has roughly 15 deg at 2000.

What is the actual code? 44 is lean, 43 is ESC something or other, right?

If adding carb spray helps, I'd tend to agree with you, something fuel. You got the old hose/sock in the tank still? Autozone, borrow the fuel pressure test kit from them, unless you just can't wait to drop the tank. :)

It was a code 43 for ESC, I cleared the code and drove around with ALDL running, the BLM is really really lean. the max is 175 and I was in the 160s. and it progressively gets worse the longer i drive it. to the point were I can only use maybe 15% throttle. Im going to get that test kit and see the pressure before I remove the bed instead of dropping the tank..

Progressively leaner is odd, if it was in the tank I would think the problem would be constant. But who knows. As problematic as ethanol is, if there is any question that the tank components are not rated for ethanol, you can't really go wrong replacing them, it's apparently inevitable that they will fail. I can imagine parts of the tank strainer blocking flow.

Without looking the code up, I am guessing it's detonating under load due to the lean mixture, but I'm not a real fan of using the narrowband to make a good judgement of it being actually lean, but fuel pressure should tell. Haven't used winALDL in a LOOOONG time, but assuming you can watch the knock counts while driving, I'd be surprised if you didn't see them.

Mark has the TBI troubleshooting charts linked in the sticky here, if you glance at it and look at the causes and how the code is set, you may get a better idea of why you might be seeing what you are. Anymore though, the ethanol induced problems are going to be my first thought on these rigs.

OK fixed it with new Fuel pump. Runs like a champ now.
It was easiest to pull the bed and swap the hangar assy. I used part # DHP10000 from autozone that # is 20-30 bucks cheaper than HP10000 and is the same exact part.
