Hey guys,
What is this grey box that the speedo cable plugs into?:

I have a fluid leak from this area. Any ideas what I can do to stop the leak?

Thanks

Looks like it is leaking transmission fluid, should be leaking gear oil. I'll bet the transfer case is overfull with ATF, pull the fill plug and drain the fluid back down to the proper level and the leak will slow way down.

Now the real problem is probably the trans/transfer case adapter seals are leaking and allowing ATF from the trans to leak into the transfer case and overfill it. Common problem that isn't too difficult or expensive to fix.

I ordered the sleeve but I have an additional concern. If you look at the picture above, there is a leak at the sleeve and another above the the speed adjustment box where the cable screws in. Would the bad sleeve at the tc cause the leak higher at the cable too?

^^^^^ true.

Fix the sleeve, and the rest of the leaks should stop too.

Holy Cow,
The old sleeve will not come loose. I went down and bought a deep socket after my crescent wrench didn't do the trick, still no cigar. I even tried a flat punch and hammer...Any helpful tips?

After looking closely I am a bit concerned that I may have the wrong sleeve? In this picture you can see a full circle around the back of the sleeve. My sleeve does not have that. Is it just a washer of some sort?

Im stuck... any ideas?

6-point socket....long handle wrench.... Big bicep.

12-point might round off the corners if it's frozen in there.

It looks like a flat washer behind the sleeve but there's no other way to remove it. Just try harder, it's probably never been off in 40+ years.

Alright, damnit ... It is finally done :). That one almost beat me.

Sad thing is after all is said and done, (part, breaker bar, sockets ) I am in about 60 bucks to fix a tiny leak, oh well ;) now I have more tools to work with.

Im a strong guy, but that crap wouldn't budge. This baby did it though
