Let’s talk dual battery’s

What are you trying to accomplish?
Seems like the 3 way switch could be higher amperage?
@ryoken has some great ideas when it comes to dual battery wiring in trucks and boats.

It's a pretty well put together kit. If you are handy on electrical you can build it for half the price or less.

See that’s what I’m not sure I just want to have a battery for accessories and one for starting the truck just in case .

I use the hellroaring kit and their remote switch. It works great. I’ll attach their table that they have to convince the buyer to go with their kit. I had just sent it to a friend last week.

What accessories? on board welder, winching, big light load???

Same here. I built mine to power my winch and all the electrical needs in the camper including my ARB fridge. Added a 3 position rocker switch to allow me to change modes. One will allow the self jump. The middle mode is OFF as in it completely divorces the 2nd battery from the system, key on or off. Bottom mode ties the batteries together with the key on for charging. Key off they still are divorced to allow the camper load to only effect the 2nd battery.

Here’s the only pic I have from when I was changing the hood release cable.

I have a hellroaring kit as well. It's been a while since I did the install so I'll have to go and check which one I have but, I don't use a remote and it charges both batteries.

diode isolator systems are better than they used to be.... they've improved the components, they used to suck a bunch of juice..... there are a ton of ways to do duals.. diode isolator, solenoid, ACR, marine switch, straight parallel being the simplest... even a few combos of said components.... and various ways to wire the system depending on what you are trying to achieve...... but if ya wanna keep it pretty simple, plenty of people run diodes like Hellroaring with success..

obviously I'm partial to an ACR.. ;)

I’m using a 200amp alternator I should run the same size solenoid?

i would... no engineer, but i think they often spec solenoids at 75% of the system use.. but they are cheap enough, sooooo....

but i would look at a simple ACR type relay like the stinger before i did a solenoid system........ technology has come along way... keeps the 2 sides separate till you parallel them.. but being a voltage sensing relay, it allows charging voltage to both sides....

Ok @ryoken please explain ACR for us.:dunno: I'm sure as soon as you tell us I'll go o yeah but I'm drawing a blank.

it's just a fancy relay... i refer to it as an ACR cuz that's the name of the first ones.. blueseas stuff, alternator charging relay..... basically it's a remote fired solenoid, but has the ability to read if one bat is low and open it for charging as needed... you can parallel them with a momentary, or fulltime switch... i set mine up with center "off", up is mom on, and down is always on...

the one in my rig is a bit fancier than a simple stinger.. that is like the original ACR's, from blueseas.. my newer one also has manual lockout, much higher amp rating and a few other features..... but is 3x's the cost...

Ahh... the one I linked senses main batt voltage, when it see 13.5 volts it will close and link the aux battery.
It has provision for link to start circuit.
