Since it looks like the best time to do the transmission vent would be before the hump is mounted, I figure I`ll get it taken care of. I`m curious as to where you guys are mounting/routing your lines. All of them, trans/tcase/axles.

TIA!

I wonder this too. How about running a common vent line? Would that be a bad idea because of the risk of contamination. It think it would make routing easier. When I get around to extending mine, I was thinking of routing up the dipstick.

Depends on your wheeling duties.

Rock crawler? Just put a breather vent right on top of the steel barb fitting.

Mud runner? Run rubber lines up higher to the firewall. Get rubber lines for the rear diff, t-case, tranny, front diff and run them all up to the firewall as high as you can go. I've seen where T-fittings were incorporated to join each vent line on the route up to the firewall before. Just made 4 vents into 1. If I did this, I'd make sure the rubber lines got bigger with each fitting to the front as you need a bigger i.d. hole for better breathing capabilities.

The breather for the tranny is the little plastic tube on the top of the housing, right? I just came back in from pulling the cooler line fittings off, and just noticed the t case one is also right there, which means this will also be another project for today!

I started at the back of my truck with the 14 bolt, ran 3/8" air line up to the frame rail, then forward to the tranny/T-cases. I T'd off both T-cases and the tranny and ran the line to the upper firewall area. The front diff got it's own line up to the upper firewall.

You don't need a larger line as you go, none of the drivetrain stuff moves that much air.

I ran all of mine as far up the firewall as I could in the cab, but I had to drop my tranny and tcase to remove the factory vents (they were right on top of the cases). I then drilled and tapped new holes and threaded in a hose barb.

if it is, looks like this hose is maybe 1/8th inch I.D?

I`m probably answering my own question here, but this is the vent line location on the 700r4, correct? Looks like it may be an 1/8th inch hose, maybe less?

Yep, thats the vent line on all the auto trannies.

Ben, did you cut the floor hump out?

I know for sure GM trucks had removable humps in '81 but either '82 or '83 saw the non-removable floors.

If you had to cut that out, that sucks. Wished GM engineers left things simple and removable.

cool, thanks.

Wes, yeah, had to cut it out. Only because it was a 2wd though, which it is no longer :wink1:

Whoops! My bad! I should have paid attention to the height of the floor. 2 and 4wd floors are different. Whoops!

Oh yeah, how much body lift did you put on to get the clearance for the t-case?

well, while I was out I picked up some junk, tees, etc. Let`s see what I can come up with :D
